On December 11, 2017, at approximately 10:51 a.m., a single vehicle traffic collision occurred on US-101 southbound, just south of SR 217.  The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and American Medical Response Ambulance Company responded to the collision scene.  The collision involved a white 2003 GMC truck resulting in two traffic lanes at the collision scene being closed.

The driver, a Carpinteria resident, drove his vehicle southbound US 101 in the #2 lane.  For an unknown reason the vehicle drifted to the right colliding with an embankment next to the shoulder causing the vehicle to overturn landing on it’s left side.  Following the collision, the driver was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.  The southbound #2 was closed for approximately 90 minutes.  The southbound #3 lane was closed for approximately 2 hours 10 minutes while the #1 lane was open for travel throughout the investigation.  This is an ongoing investigation and drugs or alcohol are not suspected as an attributing factor to the collision at this time.
