Man Pronounced Dead After Falling Off Boat Near Point Conception

The Coroner’s Bureau is releasing the name of the decedent from the April 11, 2021 Coast Guard call for a man overboard 1 mile offshore, north of Point Conception.

The decedent is 58 y/o Jean-Denis Muys of Menlo Park.

6:00 p.m., April 11, 2021

A man was pronounced dead after falling off a boat near Point Conception on Sunday evening.

At 2:53 p.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Department water rescue unit and helicopter, Vandenberg Air Force Base Firefighters, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of an occupant over the side of a vessel. 

Upon arrival rescuers determined a 67-year-old male had fallen over a 27-foot catamaran that ran aground near Point Conception. The US Coast Guard located the victim where he was declared deceased.

The victim’s significant other was rescued from the vessel and is being medically evaluated. 

All occupants have been accounted for, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
