Man Flees Scene of Vehicle Rollover on SR-154

Update: 6:10 p.m.

At 4:15 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded with the Los Padres National Forest Service, CHP, AMR ambulance, and Santa Barbara County Sheriff to a report of a single vehicle rollover accident. 

When units arrived they discovered a vehicle and three occupants who self-extricated, all described to be males in their early 20’s, reports Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.

One occupant fled the scene of the accident and ran down SR-154 towards the Trout Club. Sheriff’s Deputies searched the area and found the man approximately 200 feet of the side of the cliff, said Zaniboni.

Firefighters are currently setting up a rope system to retrieve the man, who appears to have minor injuries. Deputies are assisting with restraints as the man who is combative and altered in some fashion, said Zaniboni. Once he’s brought up to the roadway he will most likely be transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The other two occupants near the vehicle were treated on the scene. One was transported to Cottage Hospital with minor injuries.

A vehicle rollover accident took place on SR-154 around 4:15 p.m. Saturday with at least one person fleeing the scene of the accident, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The CHP Incident Page reports a Nissan Sentra crashed into the mountainside landing on its roof, eastbound on SR-154, just east of W. Camino Cielo. Three passengers were inside the vehicle with a report of one person leaving on foot. 

The passenger was described as a white male in his 20’s wearing a Hawaiian shirt. 

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department on scene described the reporting party to be confused but it was unknown if they were injured or under the influence.

CHP also reports a fire was sparked due to the accident. As of 5:03 p.m., it was reported the fire was contained to the hillside.
