At approximately noon on January 3, 2018, Sheriff’s deputies responded to Play it Again Sports in the 4800 block of Hollister Avenue after a report of a subject inside attempting to sell stolen surfboards. A deputy arrived within moments and contacted the subject, 44-year-old Aaron Derkacz of Santa Barbara, inside the store still in the process of attempting to sell the surfboards. During that investigation, it was learned the surfboards had been stolen from a parked vehicle near the beach in the City of Santa Barbara on January 2, 2018.

Derkacz was accompanied by two additional subjects, 26-year-old Carly Jo Orrison of Solvang and 25-year-old Kevin Derrick of Santa Barbara, who were sitting in a pickup truck parked near the business. Deputies contacted Orrison and Derrick and soon learned the pickup truck had been stolen out of the City of Santa Maria last month. Orrison and Derrick repeatedly provided false information to deputies during the invest igation into the stolen truck. Additionally, a search of the stolen truck revealed multiple items of suspected stolen property, including laptop computers, cell phones, US mail, and credit cards. Deputies also located a credit card “skimming” device in the truck, typically used to encode other cards with stolen credit card information.

Derkacz, Orrison and Derrick were all arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail. Derkacz was booked for possession of stolen property and is being held on $20,000 bail. Orisson was booked for providing false information to a peace officer and was released from custody this morning. Derrick was booked on charges of possession of stolen property, possession of a credit card skimming device, identity theft, mail theft and providing false information to a peace officer. He had an outstanding warrant and is being held without bail for violating his probation.

It seems do me that everyone could benefit from attempting to understand the formative cultural and sociétal forces which played into thèse peoples lives. No excuses! Everyone must be responsible for their actions, and justice must be served. And, addressing the issues upstream could save a lot of wear and team downstream. We're all part of the same human family. How can we help?

Meth much? I have to agree that while this woman's choice of company leaves a TON to be desired, just lying to a cop is not a major crime and her photo shouldn't be plastered all over the media where people are now looking up her other social media accounts. Bad choices, hey, but I hope she cleans up her act. Looks like there might not be hope for the other two. YUCK!

Ladies & Gentlemen, These three sociopaths have cost us all with their criminality, and I only wish SB County District Attorney Joyce Dudley would get serious about law & order, and throw the book at these criminal perps. The element of the crime involving identity theft ought to earn all three of these defendants time behind bars, and I would be letting Carly Jo Orrison off with only one charge. The two meth heads ought to have to defend themselves against the guy whose surfboard they stole. Dr. Josey Wales, Ph.D

Coastwatch... You are high on Jesus if you think they smoke pot. Or you hang out with them. They all look strung out and trashed. They look like they need some time in a sober house and some good recovery meds... Potentially cannabis to level things out. That was for you Roger. Would be nice if the feds spent more time on credit card theft... And less time on a taxable business.

Why was the female's mugshot released by SBSO for simply lying to a police officer? This crime happens all the time and those people's mugshots aren't sent to the media. Or are they just punishing her for being with the wrong guys? Seems odd to me if she was released the same day for a minor offense.

The female's mug shot was released because it is a matter of public record. The media can choose to provide that or not. The police booked her for a very serious crime crime and she was released while her partner and associate are still pending felony charges. I have no clue where anyone can sympathize with an adult who at the very least hangs out with such trash. More than likely her man took the rap and she is gonna spend lots of time visiting him and jail while on the hunt for her next winner. Hope they can pin her for whatever she may have done to bring suspicion and they likely released her to gain additional information because they already know she is a liar.

That Carly gal looks real cute alright. I like the 2015 Facebook photo. She's standing in a field near Solvang, at twilight, firing off what looks like a 9mm. Good judgment ain't Carly's strong suit.
