A serious four-vehicle collision on Highway 154 Sunday evening resulted in multiple injuries and forced a complete closure of the major thoroughfare.
The incident was reported at 5:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, in the 2200 block of Highway 154. According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, a total of four vehicles were involved in the crash.
Emergency crews, including the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), responded to the scene.
Fire officials confirmed that four patients were transported by ground ambulances to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room for treatment. The injuries varied in severity: one person sustained major injuries, two suffered moderate injuries, and one had minor injuries.
One of the patients was trapped inside a vehicle and required extrication by firefighters.
Following the collision, Highway 154 was closed in both directions to allow first responders to treat the injured, clear the wreckage, and conduct an investigation.
The cause of the crash is currently under active investigation by the CHP.
