Macher has closed its Santa Ynez location, the general store announced in an Instagram post on January 7, 2026.
Located in the Bohlinger Building at 1090 Edison Street, Suite 103, the Santa Ynez store closed on Monday, according to the announcement.
In the post announcing the closure, Macher said it made the “difficult decision” to close the Santa Ynez store after much consideration and thanked customers and friends for supporting the business.
Macher did not indicate whether the closure was triggered by changing circumstances or was part of a long-term plan.

The closure of the Santa Ynez location will not affect Macher’s two other stores in Goleta and Carpinteria, according to the announcement. The business will also continue operating online.
Macher specializes in clothing, home accents, accessories, and children’s toys.
Run by husband and wife duo Lex and Josh, Macher started as a single neighborhood store and expanded to two more locations, according to the store’s website.
After living in a city for 15 years, the couple and their three children moved to Josh’s hometown of Goleta, where they opened the first Macher store, described as a “curated space where utility meets beauty.”
Josh has experience in graphic design and photography, while Lex has worked in business management and has a keen interest in interior design, according to the website.
Macher emphasizes “intentional living,” sustainability, and mindful consumption, encouraging customers to purchase fewer, higher-quality products rather than follow short-term trends.
Most of the products offered by Macher are sourced from small-batch makers, independent artists, and craftspeople, according to the website.
Several Stores Closed Doors Across Santa Barbara County
Several businesses across Santa Barbara County closed their doors throughout 2025.
The Isla Vista Food Co-op (IVFC) closed its Santa Barbara Downtown Market in late December due to ongoing financial struggles, two years after opening on State Street.
In a social media post, the co-op said the store would revert to Cantwell’s Market & Deli, continuing what it described as a long tradition of a neighborhood market. IVFC said it will continue focusing on its Isla Vista location.
Faitell Attractions, a locally owned vintage design and consignment store in Santa Barbara, closed in March after losing its lease.
Among dining locations, waterfront restaurant Anchor Rose has closed, despite earlier statements in November 2025 indicating the restaurant would remain open. The City of Santa Barbara is now inviting proposals from restaurant operators interested in leasing the space.
