On Saturday, the traditional Fiesta spirit came alive as Los Niños de Las Flores gathered for their official group photograph in front of the historic Old Mission Santa Barbara. With parents enthusiastically counting down, the children, bursting with energy and joy, shouted “Viva La Fiesta!” for the camera.

This annual tradition marks the children’s role as young ambassadors of Old Spanish Days (OSD). While the distinguished Santa Barbara photographer Fritz Olenberger typically captures these moments, this year he had other responsibilities — as the 2025 El Presidente. Olenberger is spearheading this year’s Fiesta, which officially kicks off on Wednesday, July 30.

Los Niños de Las Flores consists of boys and girls, ages 5–12, who embody the vibrant spirit of Fiesta with their bright smiles and lively “Viva La Fiesta!” cheer. They serve a vital role in welcoming visitors, participating in the celebrated historic and children’s parades, performing at the opening night ceremony, and brightening the lives of seniors during visits to retirement homes. They also meet and greet travelers at Santa Barbara’s airport and train station.

The next tier of Los Niños de Las Flores includes Las Señoritas and Caballeros, youth ages 13–18, who assist the younger children during Fiesta events and represent the community’s tradition and pride. Their participation also qualifies as community service hours to support graduation requirements.

This year’s Fiesta celebrations draw inspiration from Olenberger’s artistic vision, showcased in the stunning 2025 Fiesta poster and pin. Both designs highlight the rhythm, color, and passion of Santa Barbara’s most cherished cultural event while honoring the traditions and movement of Flamenco and Folklórico dancers.

Santa Barbara’s historic Fiesta officially begins on Wednesday, July 30, with a host of events celebrating the city’s rich heritage and community spirit. More information about Fiesta can be found at https://sbfiesta.org.
