Today just before 2:55 P.M. Pioneer Valley High School Administration learned there may have been a student on campus with a firearm. While there was limited information at that moment and out of concern for the safety of the students and staff at the school, a lockdown of the campus went into effect and the notification to the Santa Maria Police Department of an armed threat on campus was made.
The emergency response plan in for Pioneer Valley High School was initiated and officers arrived on campus and ensured the safety of all present. Coordination with the school administration enabled officer to identify the student believed to have been armed and a search for the individual was conducted both on and off campus. Patrol Officers away from the school located the student in a vehicle and detained him for investigative purposes.
Once the student was accounted for and there was no longer a known threat, the lock down was immediately lifted at 4:00 P.M.
We want to thank the school staff and administration for there assistance during the response to the campus today. We are most great-full for the cooperation of the parents and guardians of the students on the PVHS campus. Your cooperation allowed us to work faster to resolve the concerns we all had.
At the conclusion of the investigation it was determined that no criminal statute violation had occurred and the detained student was released to his parents.
