Locals Enjoy Dia de Los Muertos Craft Day

Día de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”) was celebrated in the courtyard of Casa de la Guerra on Sunday with free arts and crafts.

The workshop celebrated the history and culture of Santa Barbara’s Latino families, bringing together parents and children to create artwork commemorating the holiday.

Hosted by the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation and sponsored by the Towbes Foundation, participants made tissue paper flowers, tin art, sugar skulls, and block print decorations. 

Traditional Mexican refreshments—pan de muerto and Mexican hot chocolate—were also served.

The “Day of the Dead” holiday began on October 31 and ends on November 2. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
