Local Singer Hosts Virtual Concert for Residents at Marian Extended Care Center

Residents of Marian Regional Medical Center’s Marian Extended Care Center (MECC) enjoyed a Zoom concert from local artist Conner Cherland during their ‘birthday bash’ celebration, when monthly birthdays were typically celebrated with a gathering.

MECC has been working diligently to follow all CDC and Public Health Department guidelines to successfully keep the patients and residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. MECC staff have designed creative solutions to allow continued, virtual interactions with loved ones when in-person visitation is necessarily limited. For the month of June, MECC leadership went above and beyond, reaching out to the local singer to spread some much-needed cheer to the residents, many of whom are in the facility long-term.

“The residents were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to use their iPads to enjoy Conner Cherland’s musical talent and as a form of interaction,” says Debbie Mockler-Young, Senior Director, Marian Extended Care Center. “They were excited to sing along and share the experience with others, and this serves as another form of healing for them.”

Patients were able to make song requests ahead of the concert, and were looking forward to the entertainment.
