Local Shelters Take On Ventura County Animals Displaced by Fires

In the wake of the Hill and Woolsey fires, the Santa Barbara Humane Society is transporting 36 cats and 25 dogs from Ventura County Animal services. All of the animals being transported were already at VCAS prior to the start of the fires.

Donna Gillesby, Deputy Director of Ventura County Animal Services says that “by taking these cats and dogs, the Santa Barbara Humane Society frees up crucial space, allowing us to take in more animals evacuated from areas burned by the fires.”

According to Santa Barbara Humane Society executive director Kerri Burns, taking the animals was an easy decision. “ When disasters happen, community and team work is so important. By taking these animals, we are helping VCAS help even more animals. We just want to do our part for the animals and people devastated by these fires.” The cats and dogs will be available for adoption at Santa Barbara Humane Society, Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society, and Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo.
