Local musician Martin Gore was one of the recent inductees in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of his band "Depeche Mode."

Earlier this month the Rock Hall Class of 2020 was unveiled including the Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., and T. Rex.

Gore is credited with being the band's primary songwriter and plays keyboard, guitar, and contributes with backup vocals. Depeche Mode has sold over 100 million records and played live to more than 30 million fans worldwide. They were called "the most popular electronic band the world has ever known" by Q magazine and "one of the greatest British pop groups of all time" by The Sunday Telegraph.

Originally born in England, Gore has made Santa Barbara his home for many years.

This was Depeche Mode's third nomination for the prestigious honor. Gore will join his bandmates Vince Clarke, Andy Fletcher, Dave Gahan, and Alan Wilder at the induction ceremony on May 2 in Cleveland, OH.

Certainly an honor that is befitting the band. I liked their more upbeat "synth/industrial pop" earlier stuff that came mostly in the '80s than the more somber songs that became the norm post early 90's, but nonetheless a great band that started in the New Wave era. I hope that they play at the Bowl again, as I haven't seen them there since 2013, and I missed the 2017 show; however, this is one of the band's smallest grossing venues, so it's probably only because Gore lives here that they have played locally. I have heard that New Order's front man Bernard Sumner enjoys Santa Barbara, has thought about moving here, and is friends with Gore, and that's probably why that equally great band has also played here as well - would love to see both groups play at the Bowl in the future.

Hmm, Dylan, Neil Young and Of Monsters and Men don't live here..........I guess they're just harder up for money and will take any gig.
