Local 3rd Grader Wins Statewide Poetry Contest

By an edhat reader

Adelaide Harrison Cook, a 3rd grader at Roosevelt Elementary, was selected as a winner in this year’s California Coastal Art & Poetry Contest for her poem, Whale Journey, in the 2nd-3rd grade category.

There were ten winners and forty-three honorable mentions selected from the nearly 1,600 entries received from K-12 students across the state.

The children were encouraged to think creatively about California’s coast and ocean. Her poetry has been published in the May issue of Chapman University’s online poetry journal Tab: A Journal of Poetry and Poetics.

Art and poetry from the contest will be part of a travelling exhibit throughout the State. See https://www.coastal.ca.gov/art-poetry/mm22/winners2022.html for more information.
