A collection of city, county, and Caltrans officials gathered Thursday morning in Carpinteria to announce the opening of the Linden Avenue overpass.
County Supervisors Gregg Hart, Das Williams, Carpinteria Mayor Wade Nomura, and Caltrans District 5 Director Tim Gubbins were on hand to welcome the first step in a new traffic plan that will eventually bring a third lane of the 101 Freeway from Carpinteria to Santa Barbara.
Speaking under cloudy skies and over the sounds of the freeway traffic, Mayor Nomura gave thanks to the people of Carpinteria for their patience in the lengthy construction period. The Highway 101 off-ramp Southbound at Linden is scheduled to be open sometime tomorrow, completion of the traffic signals on the Linden avenue bridge could take a little longer.
When the dust clears, Carpinteria will have five new stoplights, three lanes on the Linden overpass, four lanes and a median on the Casitas Pass overpass, a roundabout at Ogan road and extended merging lanes for all the on-ramps both North and South to Highway 101.
