Linden Ave Overcrossing Reopens Friday

The Linden Avenue Overcrossing will reopen Friday afternoon, June 1st – a little over a week early. Crews have been working very hard to shorten the overall length of the closure needed to connect local roadways to the new bridge.

Construction Update
Timeframe:  June 3 – 9, 2018

Linden Avenue Overcrossing

  • With traffic shifted onto the new overcrossing, crews will begin removing the old overcrossing. Please expect loud noise during demolition.
    • On Monday and Tuesday, preparation work for demolition will occur during the day.
    • Northbound Highway 101 will be closed on Wednesday night, June 6th, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am to accommodate demolition over the freeway. Southbound lanes will remain open.
    • Southbound Highway 101 will be closed on the Thursday night, June 7th, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am to accommodate demolition over the freeway. Northbound lanes will remain open.
    • During the nighttime freeway closures, please use the detours on the map below.

  • The new retaining wall at the corner of Ogan Road and Linden Avenue is complete. The sidewalk detour remains in place along Pacific Village Drive to accommodate upcoming roadway improvements.  Please see the map below.

Highway 101

  • Carpinteria Creek Bridges
    • Crews will excavate and mobilize equipment for work on the next stage of bridge work for northbound and southbound Highway 101.
    • Pile driving will occur throughout the week for the new southbound bridge. Please expect loud noise during active pile driving.
    • Crews will also begin installing wood forms and rebar for side support (abutment) footings.
    • A creek diversion will be installed for the new bridge work.
  • Utility work continues in preparation for the new Nipomo Drive sound wall. Please expect ongoing trenching activities.
  • Work is finishing up on wood forms, rebar, and pouring concrete for the retaining wall on southbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Casitas Pass Road. After the retaining wall is built, crews will backfill dirt in preparation for the upcoming sound wall work.
  • Electrical work throughout the project will be ongoing for new street lights and traffic signals.

Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing

  • Utility relocations will be ongoing over the next few weeks. Please expect subcontractors for Southern California Edison and Frontier to be in the area. Utility work will have flagmen as needed.

Via Real

  • The segment of Via Real between Casitas Pass Road and Hales Lane has reopened early with one northbound lane.  Please note that Via Real will only have 1 northbound lane open between Casitas Pass Road and Vallecito Road for the next few months. See map below.
    • Crews will be working on a retaining wall on Via Real between Hales Lane and Casitas Pass Road. 
  • The new sidewalk along the Via Real connection from the mobile home parks to Casitas Pass Road was opened at the end of March. Please be mindful of ongoing construction work in the areas around the sidewalk and bike path connections between Via Real and Casitas Pass Road. 

Upcoming Work: spring/summer

  • The old Casitas Pass Overcrossing will be removed following utility relocations likely in July.
  • The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will close for up to 1 month. Detour maps can be viewed at SBROADS.com.
  • Carpinteria Valley Water District will install a new water line on Linden Avenue.
