Linden and Casitas Pass Project Update

Construction Update
Timeframe:  February 25 – March 3, 2018

Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing

  • Utility contractors will have flagmen at the corner of Casitas Pass Road and Via Real to allow for relocation work throughout the week between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Please expect 5 – 10 minute delays.
  • Crews are continuing to install wood forms and pour concrete for the back walls of the new overcrossing.
  • Dirt is being backfilled at the side supports (abutments).
  • Work continues on the temporary pedestrian walkway on the east side of the new bridge. This walkway will be needed when the existing walkway on the west side of the overcrossing is removed in the next stage of bridge construction.

Linden Avenue Overcrossing

Ongoing wood form work on the Linden Avenue overcrossing is shown above.
  • Work continues on wood forms and rebar installation for the underside (soffit) and internal supports (stems) of the new overcrossing.
  • Excavation for an upcoming retaining wall work on the mountain-side of the Linden Avenue overcrossing will begin.

Via Real

  • Grading is complete for the Stage 2 portion of the new bikeway. Crews will pave this new bikeway section off of Via Real.
  • Concrete paving will be poured for the new Via Real sidewalk from east of Carpinteria Creek up to Casitas Pass Road.

Highway 101

  • Southbound Highway 101 bridge over Carpinteria Creek
    • The concrete has been poured for the approach areas of the new southbound bridge.
  • In the median and lane areas from Casitas Pass Road to east of Carpinteria Creek, crews will grind the new pavement and add groves to the new bridge surfaces.  Joint seals will also be installed. The new surface is Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement, which does not have joint lines across the lanes resulting in a quieter surface.

Drainage and irrigation work continues for the new on and off-ramps at Casitas Pass Road, median, shoulder areas, and along Casitas Pass Road near the construction yard.

  • Rebar has been installed for the new retaining wall on southbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Casitas Pass Road.  The next step will be a concrete pour. This work precedes upcoming sound wall work.

Upcoming Work: spring/summer

  • Sewer realignment work in preparation for the Nipomo Drive sound wall.
  • Carpinteria Valley Water District will install a new water line on Linden Avenue in preparation for the new Linden Avenue Overcrossing.  Once the overcrossing is built, the water line will be connected over the new bridge.
