A vegetation fire that erupted late Tuesday night near 4050 Black Road, straddling the areas of Casmalia and Santa Maria, was quickly brought under control by local fire departments.
The rapid response by Santa Barbara County Fire (SBC) and Santa Maria Rural (SMR) Fire Departments ensured the blaze was contained to under an acre, with no further spread of the fire as of 12:12 a.m. Wednesday.
The emergency call was received at 11:44 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting an immediate deployment of fire personnel and resources to the scene. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams, the fire’s forward progress was halted, preventing what could have potentially escalated into a much larger incident.

Fire crews remained on the scene well into the morning to conduct thorough mop-up operations. These efforts are crucial in extinguishing hotspots to eliminate any chance of the fire reigniting. The vigilance of the fire personnel ensures the safety of the surrounding areas and minimizes the risk to nearby properties and residents.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
