Pop star and Santa Barbara native Katy Perry has filed a lawsuit against the former owner of her Montecito mansion following a years-long dispute.
Perry, who is currently on an international tour, remotely provided testimony to a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday stating she’s simply seeking “justice” when asked what she stood to gain from the lawsuit.
When a lawyer asked if she stood to gain money from the lawsuit she stated, “I stand to lose money if it doesn’t work in my favor.”
This is the second lawsuit over a $15 million Montecito mansion that Perry purchased with former partner Orlando Bloom in 2020.

The previous owner of the mansion, 85-year-old Carl Westcott, stated he was not mentally fit when he agreed to the sale and sued to reverse the action. Westcott was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, a genetic brain disorder, in 2015. He filed a lawsuit against Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, in August 2020.
In November 2023, a judge at the Los Angeles Superior Court declared that Westcott, the founder of 1-800-Flowers, was of sound mind when he agreed to the sale.
Gudvi subsequently countersued over lost rental income and home maintenance. Perry and Bloom gained ownership of the property in May 2024.
Perry’s lawyers state she is entitled to nearly $5 million in damages from her original years-long legal fight over the property, alleging $3 million will cover loss of rental income.

The sprawling estate is located on East Valley Road in Montecito. The 9,285-square-foot property spans approximately 2.5 acres and includes eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, an infinity pool, jacuzzi, outdoor fireplace, kitchen area, and a three-bedroom guesthouse offering ocean views.
Zillow states the property was sold in 2020 at $11.25 million and now estimates the property is worth over $17 million.

Talk about bad luck. This is the second time she has had controversy around what was supposed to be a simple RE transaction. Remember the nuns. Funny, she was able to buy her parents a nice house quietly. I understand why, with $5 million in legal fees, most caused by the rich seller she is suing. Hopefully, she can go back to having a semi-normal life here in Montecito.
Sue a guy dying of a horrible disease and then spend how many millions being shot into space? We don’t want your fake ass here Katy.
She’ll get over it.
She’s talentless and famous only because of being produced. Tacky and low class. Her parents are too – they started some cult church that caters to equally tacky real estate agents and others desperately trying to associate with “celebrities” to give them some credibility. Gross family and associates all around. They’re a joke to the locals.
Agreed.
Strong liberal woman and a patriot !!!
I would have thought that Perry’s extensive time as an ‘astronaut’ would have given her a more global view- guess not!
