  1. Literally the opposite, they gave more power to the people. Anyone who feels the need to sit this one out would have probably sat down with the British while others went off to fight for our independence and earn the freedoms we currently enjoy.

  2. Interesting take on our freedom that we take for granted. I would like to ask the wrongfully jailed Britney Griner her views on freedumb in the USA. Please contact your rep, senator, and the WH to press for her release…NOW!!!

  3. Is this about abortion or independence? I get it, Roe is getting challenged and that sucks, but don’t drag the rest down too – our independence, freedom of speech, democracy, etc. We have it good here compared with everyone else, and it’s because people fought for it. Show some respect for that too.

  4. Just little things like minority voting rights, LGBTQ rights, or anything else that good old Clarence and his regressive reactionary buddies doesn’t find in his weird interpretation of our constitution.

  5. Regardless of your feelings on the matter you’re incorrect, it was something granted by an unelected body on shaky legal grounds and now has been given to the citizens, individual voters, NOT the state government.

  6. Yes, be afraid because politicians told you so and the need you afraid to fund their campaigns and vote for them. Weird interpretations of the constitution got us Roe Wade and this mess we’re in rather than politicians actually doing their job and legislating this decades ago.

  7. This cartoon suggests that all women support abortion while only men oppose it. The truth is more nuanced. A Pew study found that 62% of women want abortion to be legal compared with 56% of men. Not as sharp of a divide as one might think.

  8. You do know the Supreme Court is unelected by design and has been since day one?
“Maybe better than many third world countries dominated by religion, but not compared to the modern developed world.”
You are going to need to give names of countries. Are we talking about Iceland or Brazil?
Many liberal countries have gestational restrictions that exceed most American states

  9. It’s hard to celebrate seeing that the far right extremists are still pushing a coup – a big lie – – and there is no justice yet for everything that happened on January 6, 2020. It’s hard to celebrate because we are at war with the fascist-right cancer in our country. It’s hard to celebrate when the evangelical far-right extremists control the Supreme court. Ginni Thomas was OK rounding up Democrats and sending them to GITMO. And now the smarmy extremist Catholic Supreme Court is pushing their control of woman – and threaten to further discriminate against LGBTQ and even take away birth control. Not really caring about fireworks this year – focusing on the enemy within our country.

  10. I’m spending time right now with family in a rural red area in a purple state. I definitely had to bite my tongue a few times. The love of Trump and DeSantis is strong here.
Of course they are Catholic too, the family members.

  11. While the extremes on the right certainly have their hate, hate and intolerance has taken over the left.it’s even evident on EdHat, the lefty commentators who constantly spew hate, condescension and insults here but it’s never reciprocated but the more conservative posters.

  12. Does waving too many American Flags make you a patriot? I protested the War in Viet Nam because is was immoral and horrible. I considered myself to be a patriot and I’m still a Patriot. I have an American flag waving in front of my house today, but I want our planet to survive. I’m an earthling first, then an American. How can Trump pretend to be patriot and try to steal our democracy? How can Trump set up his social media network and call it Truth. Everyone knows it’s LIES, LIES, LIES. He is the liar swamp dweller who took us all to be suckers and losers while he raised a quarter of a $Million from his believers to LIE, LIE, LIE. I believe in the America of Truth, Justice and the American Way, based on Truth, Justice and Science… Get a grip.

  13. Such a hypocrite to scream LIES, LIES, LIES at only one political party, president or politician. All are equally deplorable on this front, which for the life of me I can’t understand why people continue to support the liars that want to give themselves more power and control over our lives.

  14. I have noticed up here in No. County many more trucks driven by young men bearing one or two large flags flapping in the wind. Is this even legal? I don’t remember seeing this in the past. More intimidation than patriotism, i fear.

  15. Fitz, it is unfortunate, but such grotesque and hateful displays of the American flag have actually been going on for a long time. Below is an example from the early 20th century. What a menacing sight! For many, the sight of this flag brings on tremendous pain and suffering. Displaying the American flag is literally an act of violence. One might suggest some kind of common sense flag safety legislation to put reasonable limits on displaying this symbol of oppression, but judging by the recent decisions from our Supreme Court they would probably come up with a way to claim the display of our flag counts as free speech. Crazy!

  16. This is a time to celebrate what arguable the best country to live in. Are we perfect no, but who is? Do we have a blemished troubled past, yes we do. Tell me what other country you would want to live in. So don’t celebrate the 4 th, no one will miss you not being there. Speaking of the USSC, it is not a legislative body. Congress makes the laws. The Supremes rightly turned the action on abortion back to the legislatures, be they state or federal. It took a court decision to maybe get the Congress off their asses and pass legislation making abortion a right. Do you think they’ll do that? They have had years to act but they haven’t, so why now? They are more concerned about reelection and keeping their jobs than in passing controversial legislation. Thank God they were not around in 1776 or we would have still been under the rule of the crown. Happy 4th

  17. CHIP – You and FITZ should get together to protect yourselves from “the grotesque and hateful displays of the American flag – this symbol of oppression – [that] brings on pain and suffering.” The SC has made a ruling relative to our flag. You can burn it as a manner of symbolic speech. Go for it. Exorcise your demons. Pray tell, where do you people come from?

  18. CHIP – You and FITZ should get together to protect yourselves from “the grotesque and hateful displays of the American flag – this symbol of oppression – [that] brings on pain and suffering.” The SC has made a ruling relative to our flag. You can burn it as a manner of symbolic speech. Go for it. Get a torch and exorcise your demons. Pray tell, where do you people come from?

  19. How is displaying our country’s flag interpreted as “HATEFUL”…? This is what I am referring to as freedoms being eroded by a whacked out “progressive” thought /mind speak… George Owell’s 1984 comes to mind. Across College /University campuses, it is forbidden to think or verbally suggest any alternative to the progressives POV. There is no acceptance of conservative values or beliefs on these once “free thought” higher educational platforms… The indoctrination of our students begins in grade school and continues through college to think a certain way and follow the ” societial norms” OR BE CANCELLED. That is how are freedoms are eroding.

  20. “All are equally deplorable” yet only one promotes the lie of a rigged election and urged supporters (that he knew was armed) on to the capitol. Glad to see you stopped posting anonymous today.

  21. ” The indoctrination of our students begins in grade school ” that is a statement from someone that is truly lost. In Florida teachers are ripping down rainbows from their classrooms for fear of prosecution.

  22. VOICE supports the most neo-nazi far right garbage and always has. Always defending the proud boys, Trump, and the intrinsically most evil garbage of this world. but you do you. See you on the field.

  23. To Salsaguy: “arguable [sic] the best country to live in” You don’t get around much, do you? “Do we have a blemished, troubled past” Boy you sure know how to whitewash things. Try using that terminology when you have your first conversation with a Black person about their “troubled past”. Blemished, your white hood is showing.

  24. Can’t even enjoy a 4th of July parade without a right wing shooter. “While Mr. Crimo’s social media is relatively blank, he has “liked” a few tweets that indicate he may have political leanings to the right.” Of course he leaned to “the right”.

  25. “Arguably”
    By what metrics?
Personally I really dislike having to maneuver around the walking dead of mentally ill, drug addicted, and economically destroyed that clog our city streets.
I’ve been many places in the world with less money and resources and very few homeless.
Let’s just start there. “Arguably the best.” Literal LOL.

  26. Doulie: I do see this use of large flags flapping from the sides of loud trucks driven by some young men in my area not as patriotism but aggression. People, including our family, are flying flags in front of their homes. I believe that is a more traditional show of patriotism. But huge flags attached to trucks that are gunning their motors and beeping their horns is a whole different use of the flag. No, Doulie, I won’t stay home today. I am heading off for a family 4th of July bbq. My family has always celebrated the 4th. I can remember the one 4th of July celebration right after my husband came home from Vietnam after being blown up by a mine. No, doulie, we will not stay home today. We will celebrate in our own quiet way.

  28. The Roe v. Wade thing should be decided by individuals not government–or perhaps only those who could get pregnant should be allowed to vote on it locally. I spoke with an elderly and kind couple this morning who get all their news from FOX–no other source except friends–and don’t check any of it. He is all-in for repeal, she is (quietly) not. Both his dominate stance and her experienced vulnerability inform their positions.

  29. FITZ – A hearty “Welcome Home” (from Vietnam) for your husband. People these days don’t always follow “traditional” ways of celebrating everything. I’m not concerned about the youngsters manner in which they celebrated the 4th of July with flags and their trucks. But, my BP does rise significantly when I see protesters burning and defacing the US flag in other ways and there’s nothing that can (legally) be done. Enjoy your day.

  30. Voice of Putin: Not only are you judging her guilty before proven innocent. You are taking the word of Russian airport police over that of a US Olympian and stellar athlete. In addition to sexually abusing toddlers and bombing and looting civilians, Russian security forces are some of the most corrupt in the world and no stranger to hostage-taking on bogus charges. I suppose you’re one of the odd Trumpies that respects Putin for being a strongman and seeing him ride horses shirtless and poison journalists makes you feel warm inside.

  31. VOICE – “but it’s never reciprocated by [sic] the more conservative posters.” – Voice oh VOICE…. how many times do I have to tell you to avoid absolutes? Your comment is now a lie. It’s meant to deceive.
SBLOCAL – every single comment he makes uses “libtard” at least once.
LUCKY777 – every single deleted comment bashing minorities and/or LGBQT
Tried searching for more examples, but they’re in the penalty box so it’s not so easy.
Bottom line: To say conservative posters “never” spew hate (LUCKY77), condescension (YOU Voice, looking at every comment YOU write) and insults (SBLOCAL) is an outright, verifiable LIE.

  32. VOICE – “These days the hate is [sic] only coming from one side,” —- good lord man, you keep doubling down, don’t you? YOU ARE LYING. Have some darn dignity dude. You are clearly delusional to think there is NO, ZERO, NONE hate coming from the right. How do you explain the blatant acts of racism by your former president? The policies enacted to prohibit discussion of LGBQT issues? Right-wing domestic terrorists? Like what the fudge planet are you even on? Sure, there’s hate on the left. I hate racists and people who defend them. But to say there is ZERO hate from the right is just a freaking JOKE and a LIE.

  33. I hate the constant arguments and anti-social commentary we’re seeing here. I like that we all can debate points but most of these cartoons are just provoking unproductive me vs. you hateful computer “dialogue” of you know what I mean. I think it’s intended to be polarizing.

  34. BASIC – I get it, but this is something that SHOULD be argued about and commented on. The Supreme Court of our country (the one we all refer to as “land of the free” and the “greatest nation on earth” etc etc) has just allowed the States to completely ban and outlaw womens’ right to choose what happens with their own body. This SHOULD cause outrage. We can’t just hide our heads in the sand and pretend it’s hunky dory, especially if you’re a woman in TX, OK, SD, LA, KY or LGBQT in any of those states plus Florida. Not all Americans are “free” anymore. It’s time to stand and demand action.

  35. “These days the hate it only coming from one side, the other half learned how to live and let live.”
Lies as always. I could talk about “Rally for the Right” shouting “Jews will not replace us” and running over Heather Heyer, or Robert Crimo III murdering parade goers, or thousands upon thousands of examples of right wing hate, but what’s the point? Evil people will continue to deny it.

  36. BASIC – What am I “off” on? I never said you were either, just wondering why you wanted to stop these cartoons. That’s great that you are those things you say. I’m glad you support women’s right to choose what to do with their own bodies!

  37. “The amount of misinformation and propaganda you continually post is astounding. Do you think if you keep repeating it over and over it will be true?”
Classic projection. VOLies has been falsely claiming that Russian collusion was a “hoax” ever since he showed up here, and regularly asserts such absurdities as “These days the hate it only coming from one side, the other half learned how to live and let live” — yeah, Robert Crimo III has learned to live and let live. The folks at Jan 6 and at Trump rallies wearing T-shirts saying “Death to Liberals”, “RWDS” (“Right Wing Death Squad”), “Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some assembly required”, and all sorts of vile antisemitic and racist messages have learned to live and let live. Tucker Carlson, whose show has been characterized by researchers as the most racist TV show in history, has learned to live and let live. The people–including GOP members of Congress–who hounded the woman at the head of Homeland Security’s board to develop best practices to fight disinformation out of her job with doxxing, vile threats against her and her family, the most horrendous misogynist attacks imaginable–these people have learned to live and let live. All those Proud Boys and Oath Keepers and survivalists practicing in the woods, waiting for the day when they are told it’s ok to start killing the libs–they have learned to live and let live.
We oppose the right wing not because we are hateful people, but because they are.

  38. BASIC – It was not a “statement,” it was a question asking whether you were anti-choice or anti-speech. Maybe it came off testy, but I honestly wanted to know why you would suggest ending these cartoons and the social commentary they provide. Again, glad to hear you are pro-choice and pro-speech.

  39. BASIC – the more you kinda bitch and moan about my question, the more I’m starting to think you’re really NOT as pro-choice OR pro-speech as you might think you are. I mean, asking for a cartoonist to stop being published is not super pro-free speech, so……

  40. Chillin & The General: No one disputes that the 50-plus hashish cartridges are considered trafficking in Russia. No one is questioning that she was planning to sell and distribute the vape cartridges as it’s obvious to even the casual observer that the number alone would not be for personal consumption. Basically, she is being looked at by Russia as a drug trafficking drug dealer. Nothing more and nothing less. She still needs your support as she is an American in a Russian prison. This has nothing to do with Trump, Trump supporters, conservatives, the GOP, patriots, and so on. It has everything to do with one of our fellow citizens schlepping drugs into a foreign country. You have to ask yourself, “What was she thinking??!!??”
Remember the theme song from the movie ‘The Falcon and the Snowman’? It’s a Bowie/Metheny collaboration: This Is Not America. As a side note from the article ’24 Countries That Have the Death Penalty for Drug Trafficking’:
“Drug trafficking, unlike drug consumption, is considered a very serious crime in most parts of the world and is usually punishable by several years of imprisonment. In some cases, even capital punishment is invoked. Trafficking is defined by carrying a specified quantity of drugs like marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine etc, and the punishments depend on the quantity, geographical location, the intent of the offender, and whether or not minors were involved.”

  41. How is it appropriate or logical to attack “the patriarchy” for this stuff? I have seen this slur put forth by some apparent feminists upset with the Roe reversal et al. But a woman justice voted for that result whereas the original Roe decision itself was signed by six old men and concurred in by a couple of other male justices. We do a disservice to the cause of progress by lapsing into such jargon and thoughts.

  42. “Are we perfect no, but who is?” – Well, those countries that don’t have neo-nazis and other miscreants running around with legally purchased semi-auto military rifles and that allow women to chose what happens to their own bodies are bit better off than us, I’d say.
“Tell me what other country you would want to live in. ” – See the answer above. Any one of those.
“The Supremes rightly turned the action on abortion back to the legislatures, be they state or federal.” – So, question for you now – do you truly believe a woman’s right to choose should not be a constitutionally protected right?
Yeah….. maybe some people have a different idea of the “land of the free” than you do.

  43. VOICE at 4:32 – “spew hate, condescension and insults” – aside from MarcelK, what comments are you talking about? And are you seriously saying you never spew “condescension?” LOL! That’s the essence of nearly every single comment you type!

  44. For example, this is a lie: “ allowed the States to completely ban and outlaw womens’ right to choose what happens with their own body.” the States don’t get to decide anything, the people decide by voting for legislators they support, who draft and vote on legislation for the State. Just like SCOTUS didn’t ban abortion, but put it back on legislators (who are elected by the people) at both the state and federal level, to do their job and actually pass abortion rights legislation the people want. Why is that such a difficult concept to understand?

  45. Here are the “full sentences” you keep whining about. Now, tell us how these aren’t INTENTIONALLY FALSE STATEMENTS.
“In reading comments on EdHat I only see hate coming from one side.”
“These days the hate it only coming from one side, the other half learned how to live and let live.”
“While the extremes on the right certainly have their hate, hate and intolerance has taken over the left.it’s even evident on EdHat, the lefty commentators who constantly spew hate, condescension and insults here but it’s never reciprocated but the more conservative posters.”
There you go. You’re entire comments. We’re all waiting to see how you explain these are true and NOT intentionally false statements.
It’s really your last chance to redeem yourself. You’ve been proven to be lying over and over again, yet you say I don’t understand the word. Explain it or accept that you’ve be outed.

  46. Sacjon
Please look at the map at this link and tell me more about those first world nations?
The map is for the Center for Reproductive rights
    https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2022-05-09/how-u-s-abortion-laws-compare-to-other-countries
Canada On request but regulation varies by territory
USA No Federal Ban, States vary from 0-9 months pending legislation
    Mexico Varies by State
    China Varies by region
Look at their gestational limits. Most first world countries put some restrictions on abortion 12-18 weeks after gestation
Mississippi had restrictions after 15 months. CA currently is at 24 months which is less restrictive than any countries other than Japan, Great Britain, Finland, India which have no limits at all which is similar to VT, CO and Alaska

  47. If the majority in your state vote to elect someone who takes away their right to choose, then those who didn’t vote for that person had NO CHOICE in the matter. Simple, brainless, easy logic. Why is that such a difficult concept to understand?

  48. VOICE – Oh I never said there’s no hate coming from my side, never said that once, not at all, never. BUT…. YOU said there is absolutely ZERO hate on your side. That is what I’ve called you a liar (once again) for saying. You know it, we all know it.
You really struggle with absolutes. Work on it.

  49. “I only see hate coming from one side.” – VOICE JUL 05, 2022 03:08 PM
“These days the hate it [sic] only coming from one side,” – VOICE JUL 04, 2022 09:59 AM
” the lefty commentators who constantly spew hate, condescension and insults here but it’s never reciprocated but [sic] the more conservative posters.” – VOICE (playing possum) JUL 04, 2022 04:32 PM

  50. sacjon was the one talking about first world countries, abortion and gestational liimits.
I was just pointing out that she had gestational limits all twisted around. Almost all developed countries have some limits on abortions past 12-18 weeks after gestation with the exception of those I noted.
I’m not sure why people can’t celebrate that our freedom… even for abortion, exceeds that of most developed first world nations. I even included a link to a map from the Center of Reproductive Rights… hardly a right wing enterprise.
Left wing people here say some ignorant crap and then mock the facts from intelligent sources from their own side.
    Idiots

  51. VOICE – haha nice try, but adding that changes nothing. My whole argument is that you lied and said you ONLY see hate from the left here.
The whole point of my DIRECT QUOTES of you is to show you how many times you said there is “ONLY” hate from the left here and “NEVER” from the conservative posters.
Keep trying to downplay it, but you LIED, not twice, but THRICE!

  52. I don’t think it’s gullibility … rather moral corruption, a lack of scruples, a deep fundamental dishonesty, so he cherry picks madly and declares an objective fact check “partisan” without even reading it and refuting none of it (especially the GOP Senate’s own report that found collusion), while absurdly referring to Durham who was hand-picked by Bill Barr for partisan purposes but still came up empty, and refers to Mueller whose report he’s never set eyes on and knows nothing about other than Barr’s misrepresentation of its findings that even the very cautious regulation-bound Mueller was compelled to call out. It’s not gullibility, it’s transparently dishonest despicable deplorable behavior and the only people who side with him are the same. He lies by rote, which is why I don’t engage in extensive back-and-forths with him like some silly people here; I occasionally point out his more egregious lies and then move on. Of course he will continue to tell the lie–directly channeling Trump–that there was a “Russian collusion hoax” … it’s what fundamentally bad people do.

  53. Lol, good for you! OK, so voice only has to still account for everyone else. By the way BASIC, I own the first Tesla ever made (with solid gold rims) and have my own pet lion that I ride around in John Wayne’s saddle from True Grit. It sure is fun to say things on the internet!

  54. Once again your lack of understanding has led you astray. You seem to think hating on fascists, zealots, liars and and a holes is a bad thing… It is not. Good people hate those things.

The feelings that you one is a victim are a result of their misguided understanding of life, people, as well as a general lack of empathy and social intelligence. Mix this with a lower than average IQ and you get: A whiney, self-created victim, who is desperate for validation and attention. (persecution fetish). Sound familiar? It is very familiar for those of us who have read your posts.

We are truly sorry your mom didn’t hug you enough but at this age, you should take some personal responsibility and solve these deep psychological issues yourself. Go ahead and pick yourself up by the bootstraps and do the work. Pay the experts, learn from your mistake, have some courage and be a man.

  55. EDNEY and BASIC – how many Jon’s do you know that are women? Seriously. Referring to a man as a “she” or “girl” when it’s clear they are not is really pathetic and childish. Grow up guys.

  56. EDNEY – and further, to counter your “point,” the article you posted was written before the overturn so the USA’s status is not correct. In fact, look at the actual headline of the article…. “The U.S. Is Poised to Be a Global Outlier on Abortion”
Further, the map you keep boasting about on this source from our “own side” is outdated. Take a look at it now: https://reproductiverights.org/maps/worlds-abortion-laws/?category%5B1352%5D=1352
America is now “PA” – “Prohibited Altogether.” No other “First World” country shares that status.
So, your self congratulation and excitement that you “got me” or whatever you’re boasting about, is WRONG and based on MISINFORMATION. Nice try though!

  57. ENDEY – we’re ALL mocking you now for saying “USA No Federal Ban” and “our freedom… even for abortion, exceeds that of most developed first world nations.”
“I even included a link to a map from the Center of Reproductive Rights… hardly a right wing enterprise.” – No, you didn’t. You included a link to the outdated article with a pre-overturn map.
Here’s the link to the actual map: https://reproductiverights.org/maps/worlds-abortion-laws/

  58. Jon, in a thankfully deleted bunch of comments on June 14 re: covid, you said something about not engaging. I said I’d hold you to it. I’m just saying. I looked for the comment but think we got totally deleted.
Let’s all go for a walk and touch even more grass!

  59. I’m not right wing and I didn’t vote for trump, and I am pro choice too, but why the F- Sacjon are you so clueless that if someone’s point differs from yours you have to spend all day trying to snuff them out? I thought you liked free speech. I do.

  60. This is great
    Mock me about gestational limits?
    https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2022-05-09/how-u-s-abortion-laws-compare-to-other-countries
Click on the blue countries. Center for Reproductive Rights defines Abortion rights by gestational period.
Generally speaking, if you are pro abortion rights, you want the gestation week limit to be higher, not lower. ie: 12 week and the government has questions is 2X more restrictive than 24 weeks and the government has questions.
The courts in the US have held that 12 weeks is not enough time for some women to figure out they are pregnant and the Supreme Court did not change that so I expect most US states to legislate abortion rights into a range similar to the rest of the first world as outlined in the linked map

  61. BASIC – I don’t really care who you voted for, nor am I trying to “snuff out” a point of view. I’m only saying that the constant posts about how ONLY the liberals here (and in general) are spewing hate and/or insults. That’s just not true. It’s not an “opinion,” it’s an intentionally false statement presented as fact. Now, are you seriously going to sit there and tell us all you’re a democrat? If so, my bad and I withdraw your name from the list of conservative posters that prove VOICE wrong on a daily basis.
