California Governor Gavin Newsom welcomed a federal judge’s move to temporarily block the Trump administration from deploying about 300 California National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon.

On October 5, 2025, the court approved the state’s request for a temporary restraining order. This order halts any federalization, relocation, or deployment of guard members to Oregon from other states.

“The rule of law has prevailed – and California’s National Guard will soon be heading home. This ruling is not just a legal win; it’s a victory for American democracy,” said Governor Gavin Newsom on October 5, 2025.

Attorney General Rob Bonta said, “The Trump administration’s blatant disregard for the courts was clear. They tried to bypass Judge Immergut’s order that halted the federalization of the Oregon National Guard. So, they moved troops from Los Angeles to Portland.”

Earlier that day, Newsom announced the state’s plan to sue the Trump administration for its move to send 300 California National Guard members to Portland, Oregon.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek said about 100 troops arrived on October 4, 2025, and another 100 were on their way on October 5, 2025.

National Guard troops act as state militias under their governors’ authority, unless they are called up for federal duty. In September, Trump ordered the Defense Department to send National Guard units to Portland.

According to Reuters, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said, “At the direction of the President, approximately 200 federalized members of the California National Guard are being reassigned from duty in the greater Los Angeles area to Portland, Oregon.”

Deploying National Guard units to Oregon signals another step in Trump’s use of federal power in Democrat-led cities, which he alleges are beset by crime.

Since the onset of his second term, Trump has sent or discussed sending troops to 10 cities, which include Baltimore, Memphis, and New Orleans, among others.

    • I see this morning a judge’s house in South Carolina burned to the ground. It is being investigated for arson. The judge temporarily blocked the DOJ from supplying it with voter records per Donald Trump’s executive order. The judge was criticized by the Trump administration following the ruling – and had received numerous death threats leading up to the fire. The judge wasn’t home, but 3 members of the family were seriously injured and are in the hospital. I’d like to think this was a strange and sad coincidence, but I am skeptical.

Fox news link so the Magacrats can’t call it fake news.

      • GT – this is starting to look more and more like an intentional fire. Couple that with the death threats after Trump demonized her for upholding the law in a way he didn’t like and you have yet another far right domestic terrorist attack.

But no, let’s keep blaming the left for violence as they declare war against peaceful liberal cities.

This needs to stop. He has to be stopped. I really don’t know how much more our nation can take before it becomes the point of no return.

  1. Meanwhile – living is unaffordable for many Americans. They were told grocery prices would drop day one. Yet, just about everything has gone up in price. Trump is not making day to day life better. He can line his buddies pockets, give out no bid contracts, give money to subsidize Venezuelan soy bean farmers (while our farmers are crushed) and spend 200 million on a ballroom. Tourism has been crushed, who in their right mind wants to visit the US these days. JUST LOOK AT A FEW EXAMPLES OF PRICES THAT HAVE RISEN SIGNIFICANTLY UNDER TRUMP:

    Gas
    Beef
    Coffee
    Grocery prices
    Appliances
    Electronics
    Toys
    Sporting goods
    Furniture
    New Cars
    Auto Parts
    Clothing
    Jewelry
    Health Insurance
