John Floyd Gilbert

John Floyd Gilbert, aka, “The Gil”, passed away on October 28, 2017, at age 74, in Santa Maria, CA with his family by his side. John was born on December 16, 1942 in Santa Maria to parents Osborne Gilbert and Clementine Gilbert-Jackson.

He attended Santa Barbara High School, where he led the 1960 SB Dons, Golden Tornadoes, football team victoriously to the CIF Championship.

John became a masterful barber. He went to barber school after which he became the proud owner of Johnny’s Barbershop on Anacapa St. Later while supporting his family through the barbershop John had aspirations to further his education goals. John applied for and received the newly established Martin Luther King Scholarship to attend UCSB where he majored in Sociology. John worked 35 years for InDyne, Inc. and retired in 2008.
