Today, the California Legislature passed the 2017-18 state budget. The budget now heads to the Governor for his signature. In response, Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) released the following statement:

“Today, we passed a budget that is balanced, fiscally sound, and wisely adds to our reserves, while reflecting the values of the people of California at a time when our priorities and policies risk being dismantled by Washington.

I am pleased this year’s budget invests more in K-12 students than at any other time in state history, boosts funding for healthcare and family planning, and accelerates our historic investments in transportation and to fix our roads. As Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I commend the increase in funding for our justice system to help ensure the fair administration of justice for all. I am also pleased the budget continues to make childcare funding a priority, adds additional resources for after-school programs and invests more than $2.5 million to implement Title IX to prevent and respond to community college sexual assault.

Along with investments to reduce the impacts of climate change, I am also encouraged that this budget includes $700,000 to continue work to plug the leaking Becker Onshore Well in Santa Barbara County.”

Jackson represents the 19th Senate District, which includes all of Santa Barbara County and western Ventura County.
