Jack Johnson Concert Sold Out?

By an edhat reader

Was online to order at 11:00am, got directed to the site, only to be told “sold out”. Anyone else experiencing this problem. Second concert, hopefully?

  1. Kudos to Jack Johnson for wanting to help out the community. He’s done this before and it is laudable. However, please consider contributing your dollars directly to an organization rather than an event like this. Don’t feel like you are entitled to some sort of benefit to YOURSELF (a good concert, etc.) for a donation to a reasonable cause. A true selfless person would not go the route of purchasing a ticket for a benefit concert – just donate directly. No ill-will towards Mr. Jackson.

  2. Well, the poster has a point. Celebrities could easily just donate a million and never miss it. Instead they just get the poor working people already struggling to make ends meet pay , and then the celebrity makes the big donation, getting a tax write-off for a charitable donation with YOUR money. You (generally) do NOT get the write-off since you got a concert for your money. I would agree: just donate directly to the relief organization, get the write-off yourself, and eliminate the middleman. Once the costs of putting on the concert are paid, probably very little actually ends up with those who need it. Just my 2 cents & why I never ‘donate’ to celebrities.

  3. The chastising of people who buy tickets to a benefit concert is deplorable. How do you know those same people did not give directly to charities as well? Or volunteer to go out and dig mud in Montecito. It’s easy to mess around with other people’s money, like saying people should just donate money directly instead of enjoying a concert and celebrities should just donate a million w/o giving concerts. Maybe some of the critics can tell us exactly what monumental and important contributions they have made for the cause.

  4. Stop and think about what this concert is for – people who lost everything in the fire and flood. Stop complaining about not getting to go to a concert. I wasn’t able to get tickets either, but at least folks who need it the most will get the help they need.
