July 29, 2021

An Isla Vista man has been arrested on domestic violence charges after a brief stand-off with deputies. On Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at approximately 11:39 hours, deputies responded to the 6700-block of Sueno Road to check the welfare of a possible domestic violence victim.

When deputies arrived, they determined that the suspect, 36-year-old Jered Harwin was inside the residence with the possible victim. Deputies were familiar with Harwin and recalled that he is known to own and possess firearms. Deputies attempted to have Harwin exit the residence so that he could be contacted safely, but he refused. Additional resources including a Sheriff’s K9 and the Special Enforcement Team responded to assist.

Harwin eventually surrendered, walking outside on his own and was taken into custody. The female victim was transported from the scene with significant injuries and she is expected to recover. Harwin was booked at the Main Jail for domestic violence (felony), assault with force possibly causing great bodily injury (felony), battery with serious injury (felony), preventing or dissuading a witness (felony), and false imprisonment (felony). Due to the seriousness of the charges, deputies requested a bail enhancement and Harwin remains in custody with no bail.

headline says "Major cities see increase in homicides and car theft" I'm guessing their is a silver lining to that. Crimes down but its going to kill you.

The truth is that SAIL380 can't provide supporting data unless it's self-fabricated. Overall, crime is down:

If I do all the work you wont believe me. Do some research and find the truth, not hard and its educational. The real hard part is you need to read opinions from both sides and the middle to get the truth. Don Lemon or Rush only gave one side.

SACJON, not overthinking, just calling what I see. But one thing you are right about, it is Friday and now that the encampment in Isla Vista has been cleared out, I can enjoy the peace that the removal has created here. Now if we can only keep Mr. Harwin from roaming the streets of Isla Vista, that would be a Daily Double!

SAIL - make simple comments, win sarcastic replies. If you want us to "connect the dots," then actually provide some "dots." Asking why they'd take guns away from a violent felon since "he knows how to get more," is hardly a "dot" worth connecting.

Look at some graphs of criminal trends. Most are rising since the three strikes was amended in 2012. Maybe there is no connecting the dots for some.

A proven bad apple that should have been making license plates instead of roaming our community. No deterrent for these criminals and they know and exploit it

SACJON, see, this is what gets you in the boiling kettle of pomposity all the time, your quickness to jump to a condemning conclusion based on a self-righteous assumption fueled by a hatred to anything not your thoughts.
You're clearly assuming that SAIL380 is eschewing currently existing gun laws and chances are, given it is me responding, you'll try to paint me into that corner as well.
I seriously think you missed the sarcasm in SAIL380's comment. If you take Harwin's guns away, as a felon, he will find ways to get more, as most recidivist criminals do.
I saw now abhorance of gun laws in SAIL380's comment, in fact, as dark as the comment is, even I can see the sarcasm involved.
Now, for a different angle on the matter. Why is it so easy for convicted felons to get their paws on guns... ILLEGALLY? All the gun control laws in the world don't stop the bad guys from getting guns. Kind of frustrating, isn't it? Well, if you abide by the law anyways.
The big problem is the penal system and the fact that "rehabilitation" is clearly not working. What is supposed to be punishment for committing crimes has become more like room and board with coddling and nurturing. How is that working out?
I'm not talking about the local pot -when it was illegal- dealer or the jaywalker or the litterbug or the many other minimal crimes the majority of society commits on a daily basis.
I am talking about rape, murder, larceny, robbery, theft, prowling, stalking, assault, battery, arson, you know, serious stuff that cam mar people down to the core, also known as heineous crimes. Why is the penal system being so lenient against those who commit such crimes?
The great rehabilitation experiment of the late 1970's to current, it is a failure and folks like you, me and SAIL380, we are the payers for it.
Not trying to "put you in your place" in any way, unlike what you try to do with others, but that's your way of handling matters. Just saying that comment was meant in pure sarcasm, but because of the hatred you have for anything other than your words, you missed it and that is saddening. Talk about weird priorities.

SAIL - so just let him keep the illegal weapons? Should we just let murders and rapists keep at it, since they already are good at breaking the law?

Sad how the same people demanding "law and order" and "punishment to the fullest extent" and "throw the book at him" are also the ones who say "nope, no gun control because criminals are already breaking the law and getting guns." Y'all have some weird priorities.......
