As per the July 5 article by macpuzl, the International Space Station (ISS) will be quite active in July, see.
On Monday, July 7th, I captured a photo [see above] at Goleta Pier between 10:17 PM and 10:29 PM, featuring three distinct types of light trails:
1. Stars: Continuous, arcing lines of varying colors and intensities, emanating from around the North Celestial Pole (NCP), which is out of frame in the upper right.
2. Aircraft: Discontinuous lines of diverse colors, from planes operating near Santa Barbara Airport.
3. ISS: A single, faint, continuous straight line extending upwards from near the center of the image to the upper right, which is the International Space Station.
On July 8th, I positioned my camera on More Mesa from 9:26 PM to 9:48 PM, capturing an image that nicely displays star trails arcing around NCP and nearby Polaris.
The trail of the ISS is also clearly visible, moving from the upper left towards the lower right. It was indeed a captivating scene!

Always happy to see your posts, Stargazer Ron, thank you! This is a big part of why I signed up for Edhat many years ago, posts sharing really interesting info about our world right here in SB. Everyday happenings around town, Edhat. More of this, less vitriol!
Great shots, with the provided explanation was fantastic; Thanks Ron!
…by default I’m required to “ask questions”; why is the pic from the Goleta Pier labeled 07072015…?
🚴
Nice shots!
You photos really tell the story Ron – thanks for the terrific pairing of copy and images. Nice! I’ll be looking up
