An injured hiker was helicoptered to safety on Saturday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County firefighters and a rescue helicopter responded to 19 Trails, approximately one mile up from the Upper Oso Campground in the Paradise Road area.

A 26-year-old male hiker was discovered with a critical medical condition. He was hoisted to the rescue helicopter and transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

I hope the hiker is going to be ok. Critical medical condition does not sound good.

Thanks for the video. That was interesting!

Fascinating to see how they do this. I always pictured them landing like the ones on MASH. Hope this hiker is recovering.

Years ago I was involved in a horse wreck at 19 Oaks and the helicopter landed to take the injured person out, there is a flat area at the top by the trees. Which I suspect after the droughts and fires are fewer than 19 now. BUT the trail up there is single-track, for much of it two horses could not pass, so the presence of an automobile means this evacuation was from the road which does not connect that high.

So glad for our SAR team, they do great work in our backcountry bringing loved ones home. That helicopter probably was flying MASH missions and probably had the holes in it to prove it!
