This report by Dr. Fitzgibbons is mostly a repeat of her earlier report, but what I found encouraging was statistics about face mask use in health care workers, how surgical masks look to be very protective in most interactions with infected patients. In the study she cited, none of the health care workers exposed to infected people became infected, and most were only using surgical masks, not N-95 masks. Only those who were involved in procedures where aerosols were likely wore the more protective masks. Only one study, but good news for health care workers.

I’d be glad to still have a job. I’m much more frightened at the fact that so many of us are out of work than I am of this virus. When one can’t take care of their families they may become desperate, for good bloody reason. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this.

"I may die and take half my extended family and some of my neighbors with me, but at least I've got a job." Come on, people. That's why most civilized countries have a safety net - to help others in time of need. Unfortunately, that's not the ethos in this country.

If not feeling well stay home no test needs to be done to stay home. Contact your physician to let them know your symptoms they should guide you guidelines are posted all over internet. Self isolate treat your symptoms and if high fever go to ER. The essential business knows guidelines. Wake up SB we are not immune to this virus. 30 more days of STAY AT HOME issued by White House.

The term "essential business" is very broad. I install DirecTV for AT&T which involves a lot of time spent in and around people's homes. For whatever reason, we have been declared "essential" by the company so everyday we run the risk of exposure just so some bored dude can have another Genie Mini in his garage. Our internal PR BS even applauds us for being "almost like first responders" - the only "almost" for us is we have no masks, no gloves, no sanitizer and don't qualify for testing . Since we travel daily between Santa Maria and SB - it is only a short matter of time before one of us gets sick and gives it to a customer's family. TV - it's worth dying for?

Parvopup, you are not an indentured slave. You are not obligated to keep doing what you're doing. Continuing to work for your company is voluntary. If you don't want to work then there are benefits you can take advantage of under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Or you can keep working.

Take some personal responsibility for your own well-being. I'm not saying I agree with your company continuing to work on luxury communications (surely you can see why they would continue to operate for information communication purposes, ie internet/TV is a utility argument), but you could provide your own PPE and adhere to a strict regimen to protect yourself. Really, if everyone would do this we wouldn't have to be on lock-down for so long, but as evidenced people can't be trusted not to be idiots.

I know someone who was exposed to someone who is sick and positive for CV19 and isn’t feeling well but still working their job at an essential business. They are getting tested but until then, how many more are exposed in the meantime?

ONTHEHILL you have a societal responsibility to report this person to their employer. Their employer is potentially liable if they know and they need to know. This is serious. I am disgusted to hear someone is working after being exposed and while not feeling well. NO MORE TAKE OUT peopel in fact I think after hearing this ALL businesses must be shut down including restaurants.

Seriously! If you're sick, you stay home, and stay in a different part of your place from others, whether your work is "essential" or not. A Gelson's market in Pacific Palisades closed completely when one of their employees tested positive, until they cleaned the whole store. Essential, yes, thank you for working, but sick--NO, stay home! That's so basic!
