Hunting at Home?

By an edhat reader

What are the legalities for hunting rabbits, squirrels and such on your own property? Not a ranch but a house with a yard but in city limits… Is a sling shot okay? Bow? Pellet gun? Save your hate comments btw, I am only asking to settle an argument with a friend. Not gonna do it.

  1. Don’t ask here! What the heck do you expect to get in response?! This thread will explode. ———————————————————————————————–
I’m retired and my info would be old, but do your research online for lawful activity. Call and speak with zoning, animal control, other applicable branches. —————————————- —————————————————————————————-Ah, you’re just asking Edhat readers to do your research for you!! lol. It is hard work, isn’t it.

  2. “No person shall discharge upon any public street or in any public place in the City, any gun by means of which any missile is projected by means of a spring, bow or compressed air. (Ord. 3763 §2, 1975)”
if your in the county, not the city, this does not apply.

  3. Rabbits and squirrels are overrunning the upper east. They’re cute, but destructive to plants and their burrows. I would never dispatch them. I’m expecting the coyotes to start roaming our neighborhood again since the game is plentiful.

  4. @343532 2 1 SEP 10, 2019 04:18 PM. The rabbits you see in Santa Barbara and Goleta are Brush rabbits (a species of Cottontail). Little guys. We don’t have Jackrabbits around here. At least I have yet to spot one in the past 50 years or so, even up in the foothills.
