Update by the San Diego Humane Society
Source: Santa Barbara Humane Society
On Friday, October 19th the Santa Barbara Humane Society will receive fifteen dogs transferred from shelters in Florida impacted by Hurricane Michael.
The San Diego Humane Society, in collaboration with the Humane Society of the United States arranged for a transfer of 93 dogs from three shelters located in Florida. The transfer of these dogs will allow St Joseph Bay Humane Society, Escambia County Animal Services, and Humane Society of Bay County space for animals displaced due to Hurricane Michael.
Employees from the Santa Barbara Humane Society will drive two cargo vans to San Diego to pick up the animals on Friday morning. The employees, along with the fifteen dogs, will arrive back at the Santa Barbara Humane Society sometime Friday night. The dogs will be quarantined until they undergo health and behavioral exams, at which point they will become adoptable.

Oct 21, 2018 07:46 AMThe 2 Chow/Pit mix dogs (Busdogs) we got at SBHS are 13 1/2 and 12 years old, and are happy and healthy. We adopted a skeletal Cimarron mix puppy from the street here in Uruguay. At 2 years old, she is the happy queen of the farm. Rescue dogs enrich our lives in so many ways, give one a new forever home whenever you can. Huge commitment, but worth it.

Oct 21, 2018 02:22 PMWe have never been able to adopt a dog because they just seem to land in our laps from people/friends who can't keep their pets. The most unusual was a tiny puppy in a ruins in Greece, left under a bush to die. The Vet in Greece figured she was 10 days old and he made papers to get her into the U.S. We had to feed her bottles. "Athena from Athens" we named her. Lived 14 years and she was definitely a very happy "born again puppy dog". Jimmy the Greek (in Vegas) would not have given her odds on living if I hadn't found her.
