Human Remains Found Off Gibraltar Road

12:30 p.m., November 3, 2017

Just after 9:15 a.m., this morning, November 3, 2017, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with the California Highway Patrol and Santa Barbara County Fire personnel responded for a citizen’s report of a vehicle seen over the side of Gibraltar Rd. near East Camino Cielo. Upon arrival, personnel were able to traverse the canyon and located the vehicle. Human remains were also located near the vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office responded and is in the process of making a positive identification. No additional information will be released at this time regarding this incident due to the active investigation and until next of kin is notified. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team assisted in searching the area for evidence. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation involving the vehicle over the side.

Does anyone know why there are a lot of Sheriff’s vehicles on Gibraltar Road? It looks like they’re investigating something over the side of the roadway. Does anyone have info?

  1. Golly, would that be the vehicle that’s reported every few weeks, for the last year, that’s always been blown off as an old accident? Noticed in the Noozhawk article that the car has been spray painted with orange paint, which signifies an acknowledged vehicle. Think someone’s got some ‘splaining to do….
