I tripped over badly broken-up concrete and asphalt at Presidio and De La Guera just across from City hall. This hazard needs to be fixed. What's the best way to fix these hazardous sidewalks?

You can do it yourself or hire it done. A Public Works permit is required and it must be inspected prior to pourin concrete by the city “Sidewalk Inspector”. Note: no rebar allowed .

In LA people have been injured in tripping and falling due to sidewalks and they sued the City and made a bunch of money. The City tried to respond by making it the homeowner's responsibility to fix the sidewalks, even though the damage is generally due to the City's trees planted in the parkway. Can't make this stuff up!

To get a sidewalk fixed, you have to find the "guy" in Public Works that takes care of those things. You have to use the word "admission' and desire to make a contribution to a certain foundation that will secure the request. There will be no test to take on your part.

Hey that’s pretty funny. I suggest you actually go to the “guy” (or “gal”) and make your snide remark about taking bribes . Go back under your rock you sorry piece of trash.

Presidio and De La Guerra is not across from City Hall. If that's what you are talking about which is half a block down the curb is definitely broken up over and around the storm drain but not really within the S/W limits delineated in the wheel chair ramp. Were you J-walking?

They didn't say The Presidio, they said Presidio and DLG. Look at a map, that's the street next to the Presidio and where there is a problem. The X-walk at Casa de La Guerra as one can readily see on Google Maps, which is current, is fine.... no broken AC or concrete. So if they're complaining about that there is no basis to it at all.

It's Casa de La Guerra. This is so funny. My roommate and I were discussing "The Presidio" a few days ago, talking about how we always want to call Casa de La Guerra "The Presidio," when that historic spot is at the NW corner of Santa Barbara St. and Canon Perdido.

Oh for crying out loud. I SWEAR that form was online----and the link I just posted tells us it is no longer, blah blah blah. Here's (partially) what it looked like. Just so you know I'm not making things up:------------------------------------------------------------------------- Street & Sidewalk Repair Request FormPublic Works Home»...»Public Works»Streets Operations & Infrastructure»Street & Sidewalk RepairShare Use this form to report potholes, street, and sidewalk damage and to report traffic and pedestrian hazards. Street and Sidewalk Damage or Hazard Report Report Information * Type of damage: * Description of the damage:--------------------Just call the City and let them know the repair is needed. Best of luck.

Online you fill out a "Sidewalk Repair Request." -------------------https://www.santabarbaraca.gov/gov/depts/pw/stmain/ssrr.asp--------------And, then, if you're like me, you follow up a few days later with a phone call-------------1 (805) 564-5377----------Then, weeks later, as I am going to do on Monday----you call AGAIN and ask what the f--- is going on and why hasn't the sidewalk been repaired.

The Google Maps street view is a year and a half old and shows surface breaks but no hazards. Are you sure the cracks are as hazardous as you claim and that you didn't just trip over a lip in the curb? Were you watching where you were going or were you distracted with your mobile device? With so many peds walking around with the eyes glued to their devices I'm surprised more serious accidents aren't taking place on a more regular basis.

My mistake ... the GoogleMaps street view is only 6 months old, not a year and a half.

I've seen a crew (All female Company) that has a grinder/ shop vac running on a generator sitting on a pushcart smoothing out the sidewalks of Solvang- She said her and her daughter(s) have been grinding down concrete sidewalks for almost 30 yrs - NONSTOP!

You can only grind so much, once the rebar is exposed it will be a short death due to water intrusion.

They are usually either ground down, or built up with asphalt, before eventually being replaced.
