The Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura (HACSB), aka Ventura, is moving forward with the Valentine Road Apartments construction project. The development will serve as a permanent supportive housing community to address issues of homelessness in Ventura County. The project is located at 5818 Valentine Road and aims to provide housing for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Highlights

  • The Valentine Road Apartments are currently under construction and on the path to completion by early 2026.
  • The project will include 134 studio apartments and a range of supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • The development will replace the 142-room La Quinta Hotel.

Development Project to Support Very Low-Income Homeless Households

The Valentine Road Apartments will consist of 134 studio apartments, equipped with bathrooms and kitchens, all designated for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. Residents of the project will be able to access wraparound services, such as mental health support, case management, and employment assistance.

The funding for the development is being secured through California’s Project Homekey. This is an emergency program that was established during the pandemic to offer permanent housing solutions. The Valentine Road project has received $32 million through Homekey. Additionally, HACSB has partnered with the County and City of Ventura, along with several nonprofit organizations, to help implement the project’s wraparound services.

The project was designed by DiCecco Architecture and is being constructed by McCarthy Building Companies. The development will be focusing on sustainability, and include features such as low-impact landscaping and high-efficiency appliances.

Construction is currently underway with development expected to wrap up by January 2026. The project replaces the former La Quinta Hotel and commemorates 75 years of the Housing Authority in Ventura. To know more about the project, visit the official website.
