Housecleaner Referral
By an edhat reader
I desire to find an honest and detail-oriented house cleaner for our house. I prefer an individual vs a cleaning service and wish to pay by the hour ($22-$25??) although they can take as long as they need to get the job done.
I am a single, working mom (nurse) in town with 4 kids attending college remotely from their bedrooms and am also taking care of my mom who is living with us while she undergoes treatment for cancer. I'm working, cooking and caregiving like mad and long for the luxury of a clean house every other week.
It all sounds reasonable until I'm honest with myself and admit that I'm a clean freak and common-sense matters. I want someone to clean my countertops before my toilets and not use a bathroom sponge in the kitchen. I dream of someone moving furniture to sweep/mop and putting things back where they came from.
Is there any hope for me?

Feb 21, 2021 01:30 PMNextdoor has tons of referrals. I agree, your 4 college aged kids should help clean... however, having raised my own kids I know how hard that can be to actually accomplish and how they probably use the bathroom sponge in the kitchen, which is just gross but how kids roll. With your mom being immune compromised you will want someone that is really thoughtful about the chemicals used too I'm sure. Sadly it is unlikely you'll get any recommendations from the judgmental jerks here... I have a guy that comes to my house but he charges more than you are wanting to pay. However, I think if you look on next door you'll find some suggestions.

Feb 22, 2021 08:14 AMI've had good experience with Mastercare. Good local company, they might be able to give you a discount if you commit to a long-term plan.

Feb 22, 2021 08:16 AMSome of these comments are just rude. This person is looking for a referral, not commentary on how they operate their family and life. I've heard good things about Nancy's Cleaning.

Feb 22, 2021 05:06 PMIf you're a nurse with Cottage Health you may also be eligible for care.com, which I think may provide some financial help for cleaning services since you're a caregiver. When my father lived with me I actually found a caregiver to hang out a few hours a day and included cleaning in her responsibilities. Not quite what you are asking about but she turned out to be the best cleaner I've ever had!

Feb 24, 2021 06:06 AMFamily Service Agency used to run a program named " Homemakers". Not sure if it's still available, but if you call and explain your situation they may be able to help or suggest options. Thank you for your service to the community. People like yourself are appreciated and should be treated with respect - not insulted.
