Santa Barbara Unified School District Food Services Mobile Cafés will serve hot and healthy lunches for children 18 years or younger during school winter break as they continue to work to ensure that children are fed despite the impact of the Thomas Fire on families. The Food Service’s Mobile Cafés will provide a hot lunch Tuesday, December 19 through Thursday, December 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m at the following United Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara Club Locations: Westside Club at 602 W. Anapamu Street, Santa Barbara; and Goleta Club at 5701 Hollister Avenue, Goleta. They will continue the lunch service next week beginning Wednesday, December 27 and Thursday, December 28. All children 18 years or younger are welcome to receive a free lunch regardless of participation in the Boys and Girls Club program or being a part of Santa Barbara Unified School District.

“As our community responds to the Thomas Fire, I can not think of better way to provide comfort and support for all of our children than to make sure that no child in our community is hungry,” said Chef Nancy Weiss, Santa Barbara Unified School District Food Services Director. “Children impacted by the fire are out of their daily routines and we wanted to provide this lunch opportunity for families to come, take a moment to spend time together, and to be fed a hot and healthy meal.”

Santa Barbara Unified Food Services provides approximately 9,000 meals daily for students while school is open. In response to the Thomas Fire, Santa Barbara Unified Food Services team supported breakfast and lunch meals for families as well as donated food to the Foodbank of Santa Barbara, Unified Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara, Salvation Army, and the Rescue Mission. They donated over 1300 pounds of lettuce, tomatoes, melon, and kiwi as well as 200 gallons of milk.
