The Santa Maria Police Department has announced an update in the investigation into the July 4, 2025, homicide of 25-year-old Santa Maria resident Brandon Cabrera, who was fatally shot in the 300 block of West Lolita.
Detectives identified the suspect in the case as a juvenile already in custody at Santa Maria Juvenile Hall. On July 10, 2025, the suspect was officially booked for murder and other related charges.
Incident Details
On July 4, 2025, at approximately 11:22 p.m., Santa Maria Police Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of West Lolita. Upon arrival, they discovered Cabrera suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel transported the victim to Marian Medical Center for treatment; however, Cabrera succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.
The victim, who was later identified as Brandon Cabrera, leaves behind two young children.
A Community in Mourning
Cabrera’s family has created a GoFundMe fundraiser to support his two children and honor his memory. The fundraiser describes Cabrera as “a loving son, devoted father, cherished brother, caring nephew, loyal cousin, and a dear friend to many.”
“Brandon was known for his infectious laugh, his kind heart, and the light he brought into every room,” the statement reads. “His sudden departure has left an un-fillable void in all our lives. Brandon touched countless lives with his humor, generosity, and unwavering spirit. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

The Santa Maria Police Department has emphasized that this investigation is ongoing. Detectives are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.
