  1. Back when life was more genteel and placid. My Mom used to waitress at the Miramar, back in the 1950s. As a kid I was all set to learn how to swim in the Miramar pool with some giant bear of a man as a teacher. I remember the man was said to be able to hold his breath for three minutes. (The water in the pool was too cold and I ended up teaching myself how to swim at the kiddie pool next to The Cabrillo Rec Center.) Fond memories of the restaurant, restaurant staff and then, in later years, happily playing tennis and hanging out in the sauna at Miramar with friends. Oh . . .and Jacques in his red speedos, of course. A bygone time of a bygone era and sad that the blue roofs are all gone now. Glad no cars are allowed on the beach there anymore. Thank you for posting these great photos. Anyone recognize the women or child in that last photo?

  2. The 1st two show the Miramar I grew up next door to. The others are ones from my Mom’s era. We both grew up on property my Great-grandparents bought (in 1907)from the Mrs. Doulton when she owned the hotel. Lovely memories, thanks for posting.

  3. I had to use a magnifying glass to check out the Bathing Beauties but all I could really tell is that they all have similar, very fashionable for the time short hair styles. This being a promotional photograph, they are probably all models and aspiring actresses. The child is looking straight at the camera…perhaps someone can identify her.
