Update by edhat staff

Highway 154 is closed in both directions at the Cold Spring Bridge due to a multi-vehicle collision.

At 8:14 a.m. Thursday, Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 6000 block of Highway 154.

Crews on the scene determined construction on the bridge caused traffic buildup when a vehicle heading eastbound rear-ended another vehicle which then collided with two other vehicles for a total of four vehicles involved.

One person sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by a ground ambulance while three people suffered minor injuries. There were no extrications required.

The cause is under investigation and the roadway is currently closed.

People follow each other way too close, especially given their poor driving "skills" and lagging reaction times.
There is a very simple, straightforward and safe rule mandatory in the driving code : the "3 second rule".
The sad part, which fully explains accidents like this one , is : almost nobody follows this rule.
And the even sadder part is : I have never seen any CHP enforce this rule ! I just wonder why and it is time that they start doing it !

Unbelievable. Once again we have some real poor driver(s) showing their stuff, right in the middle of a Caltrans and chp-enforced cone zone with dozens of cones, signs, and flashing lights. It's a 30 zone people. #cmon man award for today

Hundreds got stuck in that mess today. You know who you are reckless/clueless fool who started the accident. Ok ok go ahead and harsh on me if you want to readers, go ahead. I believe in personal responsibility.
