Highway 101 Shut Down for Pedestrian Killed Near Milpas

On January 19, 2021, at approximately 1756 hours, Party #1 began walking westbound across the traffic lanes of US-101 just north of the north Milpas Street off-ramp.  Party #2 was driving Vehicle #2 (Mercedes C300) within the #2 lane of southbound US-101 and suddenly observed Party #1 walking from the #1 lane of southbound US-101 directly in front of Vehicle #2.  Party #2 applied her brakes in an attempt to avoid hitting Party #1, but was unsuccessful and the front bumper, hood and windshield struck Party #1 causing him to roll over the top of the Vehicle #2. 

Party #1 then impacted the ground and came to rest within the #1 lane of southbound US-101.  As Party #1 came to rest, Vehicle #3 (Toyota) was traveling within the #1 lane of southbound US-101 and was unable to avoid colliding with Party #1.  As a result, the front right tire collided with Party #1.  At this time, Vehicle #4 (GMC) was traveling within the #1 lane of  southbound US-101 when Party #4 noticed Party #1 laying within the #1 lane directly in front of Vehicle #4.  Party #4 attempted to avoid Party #1 but was unsuccessful and the tires of Vehicle #4 ran over Party #1.  As a result of the collision, Party #1 succumbed to his injuries on scene.  It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.  The incident is still under investigation.

At 5:58 p.m. there was a report of a pedestrian struck and killed on southbound Highway 101 near Milpas. Highway 101 has been shut down for the investigation.

  1. COASTWATCH how can you tell all that from this? What if the driver was drunk and swerved, hitting a pedestrian walking to a call box on the side of the road? Why the need to inject blame every time someone posts about a tragic death?
