A section of Hermosillo Road in Santa Barbara South will be closed through April 4, 2026, as crews continue work on Highway 101.
As part of the Highway 101: Carpinteria to Santa Barbara construction project, an ADA-compliant ramp will be built at the intersection of Hermosillo Road and Coast Village Road, according to a construction update.
Crews are working on safety barriers, paving new lanes, adding electrical lighting connections, and installing fencing on the freeway. Crews will also work on overhead sign foundations, grade soil for drainage improvements, and place blocks for a sound wall, according to the update.
Hermosillo Road will be closed at Coast Village Road from March 30, 2026, for around 1.5 weeks. Safety barriers were placed from 6 a.m. to create a construction area.

Motorists can use detours. While driveways will stay open, pedestrians can use a temporary path on Coast Village Road. Bicyclists can share the lane on Coast Village Road in front of the closure.
Coast Village will remain open.
In addition to Hermosillo Road, the following stretches will be closed due to the construction:
- Northbound Highway 101: Daytime closure of the road on March 31, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., off-ramp at Olive Mill Road.
- Southbound Highway 101: The on-ramp at Posilipo Lane will be closed until spring 2026; drivers can use the southbound on-ramp at Sheffield Drive.
The on-ramp at Olive Mill Road will be closed through spring 2026, along with a consecutive closure of the on-ramp at Posilipo Lane. Motorists can use the detour on North Jameson Lane and the on-ramp at Sheffield Drive.
The off-ramp at Spring/Olive Mill Road will be closed through spring 2026; drivers can use the off-ramp at San Ysidro Road.
- S Jameson Lane between Posilipo Lane and Danielson Road: Traffic will be directed as needed.
The speed limit in these areas has been reduced to 55 mph for safety across the construction zones. Drivers are encouraged to drive safely through the corridor and slow down for the cone zone.
The Hermosillo Road closure is part of the multi-phase effort to upgrade the Highway 101 corridor on the South Coast.
In Montecito, crews will install rebar and concrete for new lanes, install fencing, build drainage upgrades, and work on safety barriers.
Traffic will be directed on S Jameson Lane for safety barrier and fence work.
At the Romero, San Ysidro, and Oak Creek Bridges, work will continue on support slabs and safety barriers.
