Caltrans announced today that construction is underway to widen the bridge and replace railing on U.S. Highway 101 near Buellton at Nojoqui Creek just south of Santa Rosa Road. The $5.9 million project is completely funded by Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The project will extend the lifespan of the structure and upgrade and modernize the bridge rail improving safety.

“US 101 is an essential corridor on the central coast that serves commuters, tourists and commercial transportation,” said Caltrans Director Toks Omishakin. “This SB 1-funded project is a vital investment in fixing our bridges and supporting the efficient movement of goods and people throughout the region.”

Motorists will encounter lane closures on southbound US 101 Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The northbound US 101 lane closures will take place Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Fridays. Traffic delays are not expected to exceed 15 minutes.

In addition, one lane will be closed in each direction across the Nojoqui Creek Bridge 24/7 through end of the year.

The contractor for this traveler safety project is Spectrum Construction Group of Irvine, CA. It’s scheduled to be complete in spring of 2022.

SB 1 funding provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB-1.
