Highway 1 Shut Down After Collision

Source: CHP

On October 15, 2018, at approximately 1339 hours, a 2007 International box truck was traveling in the #2 lane, of southbound SR-1 north of Santa Lucia Canyon Road, at approximately 65 m.p.h.  The driver of the box truck began to move into the #1 traffic lane to pass slower traffic, when he saw another vehicle was already occupying the traffic lane.   The driver tried to swerved back into the #2 lane, at which time he lost control, traveling back across the southbound lanes, through the center divider guard rail and overturned onto the northbound side of SR-1, blocking all northbound lanes.  There were no other vehicles involved in the collision and no injuries were reported.  Intoxication does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

Northbound SR-1 will remained closed between Constellation Rd. and Timber lane until approximately 5:30 p.m.  Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to travel north on SR-1.  Alternate route suggestions would be Harris Grade to San Antonio Rd. to SR-1 or to take US-101 to Los Alamos to SR-1.
