BTW, he looks a lot like a 20-year-old miscreant doing some other dastardly deed a few days ago and getting on camera and arrested. Same person out on bail?

The word "alleged" only means not convicted. You would be an alleged murderer if you strangled a TV host in front of his entire audience at home and in the studio. I don't know, but I assume that's because so many things are not that clear-cut.

Perhaps the camera caught the man cutting the cord and walking away with the laptop. It wouldn't really be "allegedly" then, but a fact.

Exactly Flicka, that's what I was alluding to below which KEYT ( a great news source for reporting local crime ) stated was in fact the case... so yes, a fact, not putative.

It would be nice if the police were cognizant of their role as investigators rather than trying to be judge and jury. A simple "allegedly" stole the computer would be the responsible language. These SBPD videos are becoming more like vigilantism recently.

I'd bet that if you saw more of the security video you might lean towards more than ostensible.

Or Trader Joes since one of the others (on Calle Real or De La Vina) will likely be robbed within the next couple months if the pattern of prior SoCal TJ robberies continues.
