A Heat Advisory has been issued for Santa Barbara County due to the extended period of hot temperatures that is expected across the interior portions of southwest California this weekend through the middle of next week. A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Strong high pressure building across the western states will cause temperatures to climb to 12 to 18 degrees above normal in many parts of interior southwest California this weekend through the middle of next week. The warmest temperatures are expected to be in the Antelope Valley early next week when highs near 110 degrees are expected. Temperatures in the coastal valleys of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties are expected to climb to 100-106 early next week and even the inland parts of the Los Angeles coastal plain will reach the lower 90s. Temperatures are expecited to range from 103-108 across the interior valleys and mountains of San Luis Obispo County and the Cuyama Valley and 100 to 105 in the mountains of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties, mainly below 5000 feet.
Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11AM Saturday to 9 PM PDT Wednesday. The very high temperatures create a dangerous situation in which heat related illnesses are possible. Temperatures inside vehicles, even if the windows are partially open, can quickly rise to life-threatening levels. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Areas of Impact: San Luis Obispo County Interior Valleys, Cuyama Valley, San Luis Obispo County Mountains, Santa Barbara County Mountains, Ventura County Mountains, Los Angeles County Mountains (excluding the Santa Monica Range), Paso Robles, Atascadero, Cuyama, Black Mountain, San Marcos Pass, San Rafael Wilderness Area, Dick Smith Wilderness Area, Lockwood Valley, Mount Pinos, Acton, Mount Wilson, and Sandberg.
