Health Officials Report Dramatic Increase in COVID-19 Cases

Dr. Henning Ansorg speaking during a public health meeting via Zoom in 2021

Santa Barbara County Public Health officials are reporting a “dramatic increase” in COVID-19 cases due to unvaccinated residents.

During a press conference on Tuesday, officials stated the county’s case rate increased by 400% in one month.

Public Health Officer Dr. Henning Ansorg expressed frustration against those who choose not to get one of the COVID-19 vaccines when it’s now easily accessible.

“I am saddened to report that Santa Barbara County is experiencing a dramatic increase in new COVID cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. I am particularly saddened and upset because all of this is 100% preventable,” said Dr. Ansorg.

Public Health Director Dr. Van Do-Reynoso confirmed local numbers are increasing in a “very rapid manner in the span of two weeks.”

Santa Barbara County active COVID-19 cases increased by 70% to 303 from a two-week average of 179. Additionally, hospitalizations increased by 71% and the testing positivity rate reached 5.3%.

Dr. Do-Reynoso also confirmed eight COVID-19 outbreaks across the county. One location is a homeless shelter in Santa Maria and the other is a school in the South County with 23 positive cases, mostly students.

If the state was still using the color-coded tier system, Santa Barbara County would be at the brink of the purple tier, she said.

Nearly 52% of the county’s entire population is fully vaccinated and 61% of those that are eligible. Approximately 149,600 county residents are unvaccinated.

Dr. Ansorg confirmed 80% of new positive cases and all hospitalizations were unvaccinated people. Approximately 20% of new COVID-19 cases were among vaccinated people although none required hospitalization most had zero to minimal symptoms.

While addressing “breakthrough” infections, Dr. Ansorg stated, “what we are seeing so far is that asymptomatic, vaccinated people do not seem to spread the virus.”

Dr. Do-Reynoso stated the Public Health Department will consider reinstating the mask mandate if the numbers continue to consistently increase, but for now, they’re content issuing advisories and encouraging vaccination.

On Tuesday morning, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a change to its masking recommendations as it grows more concerned over the Delta variant of Covid-19, urging vaccinated people in certain areas of the country to resume wearing masks indoors in public areas.

People living in areas with “high” or “substantial” Covid-19 transmission should resume wearing masks indoors, said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky. This is nearly two-thirds of counties in the United States.

For those who are unvaccinated, the guidance remains the same, continue to wear a mask until receiving the vaccine.

The CDC’s latest guidance also recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status.

  1. Using ONLY percentages is only a scare tactic for the misinformed. Yes 300 active cases is worrisome. But we had 2,500 active cases during most of January. Noozhawk had a great breakdown of vaccination rate by zip code I suggest people check out.

  2. CONSERVATIVESB – don’t waste your time nitpicking over numbers and stats, the FACT is that the rates are going up and we have about 49% of our County population unvaxxed and at high risk now. Don’t exert the energy to quibble with minutia, just get vaxxed and wear a mask indoors. If you’re not vaxxed, wear one all the time. Easy. Done.

  3. “I am particularly saddened and upset because all of this is 100% preventable,” said Dr. Ansorg
Well, if people are now accepting that breakthrough cases really are occurring, perhaps Ansorg should use another percentage other than 100%. It’s disingenuous to say it’s 100% preventable, when even the earliest and most optimistic estimates for the vaccines weren’t greater than 96%. One can argue by how much they efficiency of vaccines have dropped since then, but no one will argue that the efficiency has dropped since delta arrived. It’s language like this, and many other instances from politicians and public health officials, that makes people distrustful and hesitant. Just be honest for a change, and let people decide for themselves.

  4. We don’t need a lockdown, a shutdown or a mask mandate… at this point we simply need a vaccine mandate. Shutdowns and lockdowns are counter productive and the mask mandate doesn’t accomplish much… with the effectiveness of our vaccines a mandate is to vaccinate is the ticket out. Time to rip the bandaid off!!!

  5. Not a good idea to send your unvaccinated 14-year-old Goleta resident daughter to Disney World in Florida. She returned home to infect your family and at least one of her teenage friends.
The height of irresponsibility and stupidity.

  6. CONSB – Nope, just accept there’s a risk and act appropriately. You’re wasting time nitpicking numbers. Fact is, infection rates are on the rise no matter what. If you’re not vaxxed and being careful still, you’re at risk. Super easy.

  7. Weirdly specific example. Wouldn’t call it the height of irresponsibility or stupidity though. We’re doing the same thing here as they are in Florida, our curve/spike is just slightly behind. What matters is getting the vaccine… if the fam is vaccinated then yeah, hit Florida… life goes on!

  8. Yes, you’re right. No need to be concerned if you’re protected.
i’m double vaccinated, and so is my immediate family. If we get infected, the symptoms will be minor and even if we did become infected, it is extremely unlikely that we could infect others.
Nevertheless, there is the persistent threat caused by unvaccinated people, who should be treated as pariahs at this late stage in the game, having been cajoled and given plenty of opportunity to get vaccinated.
They are putting the community at risk and attenuating this crisis. I blame them for this endless crap. As long as they refuse to get vaccinated, the virus will mutate, people will die needlessly.
The unvaccinated must be refused entry to all businesses and employment places.
We need a broad VACCINE MANDATE.
Zero tolerance for the refuseniks. Make them captive in their homes, ordering food online for home delivery, with nowhere to go and nothing to do.
Reward the responsible people. Punish the rest. This is how we will end the pandemic.

  9. Wait, are we still using the PCR tests for diagnosis? The CDC just issued a statement that they are withdrawing their request to the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization of the PCR test, which will end after December 31, 2021. Not only because, at the insane level cycles (45…. really?!) being used generated nearly a 90% false positive rate, but that it cannot distinguish Covid from Influenza (or any other viral load). No wonder we saw the flu completely disappear last year in the last 9 weeks of a pretty decent flu season., and completely absent this last year. Curious how Winter time Covid has the exact same symptoms as the flu – fever, cough, and the Summer time Covid (Delta) has a completely different set of symptoms…. sneezing, runny nose, headache… just like seasonal allergies.
According to the CDC earlier this year – of the official Covid US death toll, only 5.5% of that total was strictly due to Covid and nothing else. Several California counties are revisiting their Covid death numbers – https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/santa-clara-countys-covid-19-death-toll-drops-by-505-after-data-change/2585739/ It would be interesting to see what Santa Barbara’s numbers would be if they did the same….

  10. Here’s from the CDC – https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs/2021/07-21-2021-lab-alert-Changes_CDC_RT-PCR_SARS-CoV-2_Testing_1.html Note paragraph three :
“In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.”
I don’t do social media, but if this counts for you…. what ever floats your boat.

  11. Lots of incorrect stuff in your post, but your presentation about the PCR test is basically correct. First, it absolutely does specify CoVid-19, not influenza, but not necessarily live, potentially infectious virus, but ANY part of the virus’s DNA/RNA signature, dead or alive. The more cycles run, the higher the test positive rate. Could be a dead virus particle stuck in your nose from last month. Which mean false positive. Or at least not currently infectious. WHO now recommends 18 cycles and it still produces a possibly 50% false positive:infectious rate. So the test is essentially useless. I wont bore you with the details.
In the absence of underlying health conditions, the case fatality rate is actually lower than you wrote but it doesn’t matter. No one has to die *from* covid. Not if they’re vaccinated. Even one unnecessary death is one too many. If you choose to be unvaccinated, your possible death is on you. But your irresponsible behavior affects everyone around you.
I agree with Loosecannon. If you choose to be unvaccinated you are a clear and present danger to everyone else. You are a scourge on the rest of humanity. You should never leave your home and if absolutely must, not without a N/KN95 face mask. Stay away from me and my family. Hang out with your unvaccinated friends. It wont take too much longer before you wont have any, one way or the other.
PS: There are some people who for medical reasons cannot get the shot. It is YOUR responsibility to help protect them by being vaccinated. Choosing not to is….beyond words.

  12. Actually, truth be told, I’m a grown up, capable of critical thinking and researching information. Is that bad? Let me know right away and I’ll stop so I can sit back and be spoon fed ‘what I need to know’ by the corporate media. Waiting for your direction.

  13. Once again, VOR uses calm reasoning and facts whilst the Edhat know-all Intelligentsia resorts to the usual drivel. Instead of getting painted in a corner, VOR uses these peeps to wipe up aisle 7 over and over. Everyone knows that when the name-calling starts, the name-callers have lost the discussion (“Here’s fact A, B, and C.” …..then out comes the “you are an idiot” and “completely debunked by Disgraced Talking Head #3 on MSNBC” …..etc.). Something like that anyway.

  14. Sac, there is no data to support your claim, it’s purely anecdotal based on what you’ve seen on the TV and internet. Now you’re asking me for data to support my claim that there is no data to support your claim? Do I have that right?

  15. VOICE – oh wow you’re amazing. You say there’s “no data to support your claim” yet you also say “”That is simply not true Sac, that data doesn’t support it””
So…. what data where you talking about that doesn’t support my claim? WHAT DATA are you relying on??
ANSWER: None. You’ve admitted there’s no data. So, instead of pretending to be some “reason” wizard, just admit, as you pretty much already did, that you’re just making stuff up and your claim was just as anecdotal and unprovable as mine. Just because you don’t agree, doesn’t mean “the data doesn’t support” my claim.
I never purported to back my claim with data, just made the claim that is pretty common knowledge and I stand by: Most of the people who are out there refusing to get vaccinated are also the same ones refusing to wear masks.
Again, if I’m wrong, show me the proof. Oh yeah, you admitted you have none. Next!

  16. VOICE – “the data doesn’t support your claim” is not the same as “there is no data to support your claim.” It’s a semantic nuance, but it’s important. If you meant the latter, your concession is accepted.

  17. Because that would be a reasonable course of action and when the world doesn’t end would highlight how politicians/bureaucrats utterly failed with their covid response (all the pain and cost of shutdowns but with no benefit).

  18. BASIC – I have no problem allowing those who refuse masks, refuse vaccines and put their families and neighbors at risk get what’s coming, but remember there are a lot of people out there who are at risk despite being fully vaccinated. People going through chemo, even if fully vaxxed, are usually immunocompromised and at risk of not just infection, but complications. There are many other conditions putting people who want to be vaxxed at the same risk as those who choose to be unvaxxed. Heck, even kids (see Mississippi) are suffering.
I wear my mask for THEM. I wear it for those who can’t be protected despite the desire to be. Let the others soak up all the ‘vid they want, but let’s not forget those who are unable to achieve immunity.

  19. Still mad about the trees???? Never met someone who loved Eugenias so much…
The problem with the polar extremes of both sides is they are convinced anyone that disagrees with them is “lying”. It’s sad and truly the problem plaguing this country. The middle ground is no mans land…you must have iron clad (and vocal!) conviction in extremely partisan ideologies.

  20. When no one in real life pays attention to you, you go on the internet and spend a TON of time and effort trying to get a tiny little feeling of validation… And that is the driving force behind most of these AntiVa posts on Edhat. They’re lonely people who have no friends to talk with and no people to influence. They’re desperate for validation and so they spend hours, days, weeks confirming their bias and deepening their cognitive dissonance. All for a few upvotes or “your (sic) totally right!” posts… Sad isnt it?

  21. There are very good reasons NOT to take the vaccine. ..and I am pro vaccine in most cases. I don’t suffer fools. If you try and mandate these vaccines, or any drug, especially to my child; you will have a war on your hands. That is not hyperbole or a joke. I got vaccinated because I made an informed decision based upon risk vs reward. Some in my family decided against it for very same calculations. That’s how it should be.
    What happened to this country?

  22. Lotuseater, it is folks like you which would have killed or crippled millions from polio, small pox, measles and other deadly diseases that we have fought back against throughout human history. Your selfishness and arrogance is not enough to deny science. And do you not remember: “E Pluribus Unum” or maybe “United We Stand”? I ask the question “What happened to this country as well” and find the answer to be that knee jerk hostility to intelligence and facts which has been around as long as the “Know Nothing Party” has gone out of control through self-aggrandizing manipulators on the internet and in politics.

  23. RHS: Government has no right to force anyone to be injected with a vaccine, let alone an unapproved vaccine. Where are the ‘My Body, My Choice’ folks? It seems like their handlers have total control over their sheep. Baaaaahhhh….Baaaaahhhhh…. It used to be that progressives were skeptical of the government, but now that t-h-e-y are the government, not so much…”Do as we say, or else!”

  24. You are patently wrong Babycakes. The US Government has the right to require you and every other soul to be vaccinated and has done so for far longer than you’ve been alive ( you’re alive thanks to vaccines)… Pretending that you know isnt the same as actually knowing nor does it make you appear smarter… In fact, the opposite is true.

  25. When no one in real life pays attention to you, you go on the internet and spend a TON of time and effort trying to get a tiny little feeling of validation.
When no one in real life pays attention to you, you go on the internet and spend a TON of time and effort trying to get a tiny little feeling of validation.

  26. Oh lookie! Another Boomer and their ME ME ME mantra. Boomer’s are the worst generation in American history. The Hippies became Yuppies and they ate the country. They indebted the future generations for the next 100 years to pay for their greed and selfishness. They are literally the only generation in our history to leave the next generation worse off than they… The only one! And they’re still sucking up every last resource while poisoning the well on their way into the grave… If only there was a way to accelerate that journey? Hmmm. I wonder what that could be? You’re right Lotus, the vaccine is definitely not the right thing for you…

  27. We already have vaccine mandates for children attending schools. Why should COVID be any different?
    Effective July 1, 2019:
Immunizations required to enter 7th grade:
Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis booster (Tdap)
    Varicella (Chickenpox)
    Immunizations required to enter Kindergarten:
    Polio
    Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP)
    Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
    Hepatitis B
    Varicella (Chickenpox)
Immunizations required to enter Child Care (depends on age when enrolling):
    Polio
    Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP)
    Haemophilus influenzae type b
    Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
    Hepatitis B
    Varicella (Chickenpox)

  28. GT, you are part of the problem and equally as bad for our country and community as those q-anon, faux news, Trumpiodiots, you’re constantly, and I mean constantly, bringing up (even when completely unrelated to the topic at hand).

  29. The AntiVa logic: “I don’t trust the government”. While simultaneously stating “The Covid19 vaccine is not FDA approved! We have no idea what’s in it!”. While you really cant do anything about stupidity, trust that Mother Nature can and does manage these things with incredible efficiency… Sometimes you just have to let things play out.

  30. This is another example of many during this pandemic showing people truly cannot self govern as they wish to without government intrusion. The unvaccinated were asked to wear masks and they didn’t. Screaming about their “rights” without regard to everyone else’s rights. So now, we have to go back to everyone wearing masks b/c ppl cannot be trusted to self govern and do what is right for the greater good as it was intended in this country. And these very same people screaming about “freedom” and “rights’ now will complain when the government comes in to govern b/c they cannot, what a bunch of BS at this point not to mention extremely frustrating to deal with these incalcitrant anti social problematic people who should be quarantined away from the rest of the community as they apparently cannot live within a community and do what is right and properly self govern without the government having to come down on them. How stupid.

  31. Andrea, you have a very narrow minded and skewed view of the situation spoon fed to you by those with a motive unrelated to public health and well being. Anyone who lumps everyone who hasn’t received a vaccination into a single, predefined, partisan pile is part of the problem and only increases division and distrust. Like so many other issues, as much as the media and internet want to put you in column A or column B, is not possible to define the scope of the issues like that as they are incredibly nuanced and multi-faceted, especially for a county as large and incredibly diverse as ours. Further division and blame is not the solution.

  32. Chem, reading your comments is extraordinarily frustrating. You know that Dr. Ansorg is discussing hospitalizations and deaths, it’s mentioned in the beginning part of his quote. Yet you continue to act as if you know better. People ARE deciding for themselves about the vaccine and that’s why we’re in this mess.

  33. LOTUSEATER if you are going to bring up the past problems with the LIVE polio vaccine then get your facts straight. That was a LIVE vaccine, with live virus, nothing like the vaccines out now in fact the mRNA has NO virus in them at all. Some, not a huge number, of mothers contracted polio from changing baby diapers b/c the LIVE virus was shed through the poop. The immediately discontinued it and oped for a different vaccine. That is not the case with ANY of the current vaccines out there even ones with viral particles which are all DEAD and incapable of infecting you. You are so worried yet not at all concered about the long term damage you may suffer if you contract COVID and they’ve already said, If you are NOT VACCINATED you WILL be infected with Delta. I hope you have accepted that consequence.

  34. SBSURF- I think what CSF is getting at is that when there is distrust of the officials, it makes them hesitant to get vaccinated. When numbers such as 100% are used, and obviously not accurate, it leads to more hesitancy. I personally know many people in this camp.

  35. VOICE – would it help if she said “most of the unvaccinated people……?” We all know that most of those who are voluntarily unvaxxed are the same ones who refused to wear masks due to their “freedoms.” You can’t honestly say that’s untrue.

  36. You’re absolutely right Duke! The idea that people can make decisions like choosing to get a vaccine or not for themselves when so much is on the line is absolutely insane. It’s time the Governor and perhaps even the president step up and make this happen. We need to suspend the bill of rights immediately, because this is an emergency. Everyone must either get vaccinated, or else be transported to an isolation center to keep the rest of us safe. Once we get our antiquated and self destructive bill of rights out of the way, the governor and the president can finally take some real action on other public safety issues like global warming and inequality. We need to modernize our concept of civil rights now to make everyone safer.

  37. A writer here yesterday was derisive towards certain data and science and I don’t understand why unless it is for personal reasons.
I think we can almost all agree that the new cases are in the unvaccinated population, but more specifically, the adult 20% of the population that are not vaccinated and who have not gained natural immunity by recovering from the virus. An ongoing study by Washington University shows people who have recovered from COVID have had durable, ongoing, strong immune repsonse up to 11 months now and counting. This study includes people from the population at large who had unaware they had ever contracted the virus because they were asymptomatic. The population with natural immunity is estimated to be at least 20% of the population and includes children under 12. This is important because there are 48M children, 15% of the population in the US under 12 years of age, and the vaccines are not approved for use in that age group yet so their immunity can only come via natural means. The hard part is we really don’t know how many children under 12 have had the virus and showed zero or very mild symptoms.
So in south SB County we have around 65% vaccinated plus 15% Children who cannot yet be vaccinated, children that may or may not have natural immunity, but luckily if they do contract COVID they carry very low risk of serious complications.
That gives us 65% Vaccinated (some who also have natural antibodies) plus 15% children we can’t do anything about (some of whom carry natural antibodies) leaving us 20% adults unvaccinated (some of whom have natural antibodies).
This will sound harsh, but the best thing that can happen to the vaccine rejectors is for them to get COVID. 99.5% or more of them won’t die and they will have achieved natural immunity

  38. Chip – while I would often agree with you, there are scenarios in which the common good does transcend the individual. Think about the draft in world war 2… we suspended the “rights of the individual” for the common good. Or the shots we give our babies for polio, small pox, etc. it’s not to be done lightly or flippantly… but there are times where the common good transcends the individuals rights.

  39. You’re making assumptions with zero supporting data, anecdotal information at best. Me supporting a persons right to choose to get this vaccination does not make me a anti-vaxxer, nor does it mean I didn’t get it. At this point, the vaccine is widely available for free. Everyone at-risk should have gotten one by now, which, combined with improved therapeutic treatments and procedures, makes the current mortality rate of covid below other communicable diseases which the world isn’t freaking out about (like TB, which still kills 1.5 million people per year +/-). I simply place a higher value on people being free to live their lives than I do on trying to eliminate what is now a extremely minuscule risk at the expense of it all.

  40. Yes Duke, and there are many situations where the common good must come before civil liberties. For example, if government officials and science determine that certain steps are necessary to fight climate change, than we need to take those steps regardless of whether the bill of rights allows for it. Similarly, if officials and experts determine that steps need to be taken to address income inequality or historical injustice, then those steps must be take even if they infringe on someone’s “rights”. The common good comes first, not the individual. That is why we need to suspend the bill of rights and start getting things done.

  41. VOICE – You’re completely ignoring my question. Who are all those people who refuse to wear masks? Are they vaccinated or proudly unvaccinated? Why do you dodge it? You say most are not the same, well prove it!
At least in our government, my claim is 100% accurate. See for yourself: “Most of the Republicans refusing to wear masks have declined to say if they are vaccinated or have openly confirmed that they are not. All Democrats in the House and Senate, meanwhile, have confirmed publicly that they are vaccinated.” —–https://thehill.com/homenews/house/565286-tempers-flare-as-some-in-gop-ignore-new-house-mask-mandate
Now, we can argue all day whether our government is a reflection of our people (democracy and all that), or you can provide some proof that “the data doesn’t support” my claim that most of the unvaccinated people out there are the same ones that are openly defying mask rules. It’s a simple claim, yet you vehemently oppose it, saying the “data doesn’t’ support it.”
OK, fine. Once again…… where is your “data?”

  42. Chip –
Again, I would tend to agree with your line of thinking, however there are limits and exceptions…life simply isn’t simple enough to be truly and completely black and white. There are scenarios where the common good does transcend the individual (using your line of thinking, should we have not have had a draft for World War 2?). This isn’t an abstract issue…the vaccine is available and will save lives. I have years worth of Edhat posts questioning and railing against government over-reach and government madness, but this issue, wildly politicized on both sides, isn’t one of them. I’m all with you for fighting for rights…but there are times to step back and understand we are all part of a single country and there are duties and responsibilities therein.

  43. Sac – I haven’t seen people openly defying mask rules, have you…and if so, where? There is no mask mandate at this point (just a recommendation), so I see a lot of people (liberals, conservatives, nothings and everything in betweens) not wearing masks because they don’t have to.

  44. If you’re going to quote me do it accurately, don’t tweak my words to change the meaning, then put it in quotes to try and support your point. I also don’t trust one bit what any politician, red or blue, said about their personal vaccination status, they have lost all credibility.

  45. VOICE – answer the question, with “supporting data.” It’s all I’ve asked. Let me break it down:
I said: Most people who are voluntarily unvaxxed are also the same people out there refusing to wear masks.
You said: No, not true, the data doesn’t support that.
I say, again: Show me the data.
I never said anything (initially at least) about party lines. You’re changing it up here. Super simple: SHOW US THE DATA you keep talking about.

  46. VOICE – again, can’t make this much easier for you, but here’s my original claim:
“most of those who are voluntarily unvaxxed are the same ones who refused to wear masks due to their “freedoms.””
You said: “That is simply not true Sac, that data doesn’t support it”
    Bring on the data.

  47. Nor their age or underlying symptoms. This is very misleading because with the “breakthrough” cases in the hospital, the patients came to into the hospital for something else then tested positive for covid (an article in the LA times I think recently). So how many of those 10 deaths and 51 hospitalizations were due to covid vs. the patient came in for something else and tested positive for covid? At this point in the pandemic these aren’t even questions we shouldn’t even have to ask but should be told or not even treated as a covid death/hospitalization.

  48. VOR: It’s interesting that, only now, people care about the exact cause of deaths in COVID breakthrough cases. Before the vaccines, a death plus a positive COVID test meant you died of COVID. If you look at the wording on the CDPH website, it’s clear they’re going to play they intend to scrutinize each and every post-vaccine death in order to juke the stats.
“However, it is unknown if the primary cause of death in these cases was COVID-19 or if there were other contributory or alternate causes.” —CDPH
    https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Post-Vaccine-COVID19-Cases.aspx

  49. The 14 least least-vaccinated districts are all Republican and rural (or have a rural population of at least 40%). Missouri, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates of any state, took the bottom four spots.
    https://www.agupdate.com/rural_life/rural-folks-and-conservatives-less-likely-to-get-coronavirus-vaccinations-analysis-by-congressional-districts-shows/article_10b743c3-05d9-5911-b631-e0812d104123.html

  50. I think people still don’t care CSF, I have been questioning this from the beginning and strenuously when I heard Ventura County had a covid death… that was actually drug OD but still put up as a covid death. Accurately conveying stats like that, as well as those in the hospital for something else that happened to test positive for coivd, defeats the fear mongering narrative that keeps politicians chokehold on power over so many oblivious citizens. With everything we’ve been through this past year it absolutely blows my mind so many here think we should give more power to the government!

  51. Bird- I don’t have a deep understanding on my friends and colleagues stance on all vaccines, and can only provide what i’ve seen with respect to the 3 covid vaccine options in the US. The rabies vaccine has been around over 100 years, whereas these are much newer and some people are reluctant to try new things(for better or worse, that is a real opinion shared by many). As far as the gambling, i think many people would be fine with getting covid vs taking a vaccine they are skeptical of. From my last 18mo observing, there isn’t generally a fear of getting covid in younger age groups, the concern has been protecting the vulnerable. Just sharing what i’ve observed(i am vaccinated btw so go easy on the attacks, lol).

  52. This Dr. brings up a very good point. We’re 18 months in. What may have been okay early on out of an abundance of caution, without much supporting data is one thing. Now, guidance and policy should be backed by robust randomized controlled trials. If we don’t have that information who failed us? CDC, NIH, WHO, big pharma, medical universities, AAP?

  53. Thank you(r) for making clear to everyone how much weight that should place on your comments. 1) the Half-moon bay review is merely the local periodical this doctor published is opinion 2) that “twit” is highly experienced and credentialed doctor, here is his linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/scott-balsitis-057087b , what credentials do you have to label this guys a “twit” and his opinion “FUD”? and your opinon is not FUD?
    3) there is no data in the article, save for the number of pediatric flu deaths the past 3 years, it is an opinion for discussion as I mentioned in my comment.

  54. Dr. Ansorg said that this phenomena is 100% preventable meaning that the preventability is absolute, total. He did not say that 100% of the cases would not exist he did not say vaccine efficacy was 100%. The per cent modified the degree to which the problem was or not a preventable problem. It is a binary: preventable or not; 100% preventable or 100% not preventable. To launch into a snarky mudsling/nitpick implying that he was denying 96% efficacy or similarly quantifying outcomes, when he obviously was not stating so, is not helpful.
