This eagle, from the Alta Mesa Ravine, dropped into my backyard and got one of my wild bunnies.

Hawk or Eagle Hunting at Alta Mesa?

I always wonder if they have a good life. Is it easy for them to find food? They way they always seem to be on the lookout makes me think they are always starving. The hawks on the westside seem to hunt doves mostly and now doves seem to be in pretty short supply.

Eagle and the hawk.. Great lyrics by John Denver song. ... The magesty of the raptor. The demise of the rabbit.

Likewise our predator is the virus as we try our darndest to survive.

@pitmix. if the hawk is going after doves, might be a red shouldered hawk, ...might be....if the tail is banded, (black and white lines) then almost certainly red shouldered, not exclusive, but probability is high. Could also be Cooper's hawk, but tend to be smaller and do not have the 'red shoulder'. If hawk has red tail, well, that's obvious...we have some red-shouldered here on East side, pretty loud birds, especially when being harassed by crows. Last possibility, and there are some here in downtown (East side area), have pics, Peregrine falcons. I suggest allaboutbirds(dot)org...great site for ID. Keep looking up!

There are so many ground squirrels in our community that there should never be a hungry hawk. I wish we had more hawks!
