Happy 7-Eleven Day!

Today is July 11th (7/11) and the one day a year where the national convenience store chain gives away their signature frozen beverage, Slurpees.

Customers can cash in on their complimentary small-size drink, and inevitable brain freeze, by stopping by a participating 7-Eleven store from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. while supplies last.

7-Eleven estimates they will hand out approximately 9 million Slurpees by the end of the day.

711 is a NASTY corporation (Southland Corp) and almost everything they sell is processed junk food. I have boycotted them for over 20 years now.

Why the focus on sucking all the fun out of a free slurpee day that happens ONCE A YEAR?

"Body-shaming." Euphemism for "don't worry, it's okay to be obese." No, it's not okay. Shame on the parents. And you're dead wrong about fat kids in the 70s. There is no comparison between what we saw then and what we're seeing now. It nearly boggles the mind: kids age 12 and 13, 4' 9" to 5'2" and weighing in at over 150lbs. It's disgusting and wrong. It is nothing unusual now to see teenagers who are 50, 60, 80 lbs overweight. Think of the cost to healthcare in the future. Stay away from sugar and fried foods and keep your kids on track with plenty of good exercise.

Yeah, shame on the PARENTS, not the kids! And no, "body shaming" is not the same as saying it's ok to be fat. It's just saying stop being a jerk to people who are overweight.

When I was a kid in SB we frequented Foster's Freeze, Orange Julius, Jack 'n Jill's. Lots of malts and milk shakes. Chocolate dipped cones, whipped orange drinks. Oh, and A & W root beer floats. But----we were all skinny, wiry little cusses. The odd man out was the fat kid. We walked everywhere, we body surfed. We rode our metal wheel skateboards and funky bikes. It is appalling to see the grossly flabby fat kids that now exist. Parents: get your kids outside and away from video games.

"grossly flabby fat kids?" - wow, way to body shame children. Yeah yeah, we all know your generation was the "best," but overweight kids are nothing to make fun of. Keep your self-righteousness in check. There were plenty of fat kids in the 70s.

Does the franchise STOP selling all other sizes on "Free slurpee day"?.. No..so; "The amount of morbidly obese children with giant slurpees was a sad sight".

Nostra - so they weren't the free slurpees you "saw." As such, why comment on a post about FREE (small) slurpees other than using it as an attempt to soapbox. Jeez, give it a rest.

MGM - yeah, I seriously doubt Nostrachumash actually saw any "children with giant slurpees," probably just trying to use this as a soapbox!

@8188 Party Pooper much? Live a little. One free Slurpee made so many people smile today. Plus just like that...Poof! It's over until next year. I enjoyed seeing all the smiles.

Exactly - these people who spend 1/2 their day focusing and analyzing every molecule that enters their body live just as long as the rest of us, sometimes less! I know a few "health nuts" that have dropped dead of heart attacks at early ages, and not many more who were "unhealthy." Enjoy a little treat now and then! A little sugar won't kill you!

Quit sugar and feel your body rejoice. No kidding. Sugar is evil.
