Copter 3 was on the scene briefly at Las Canoas, cancelled then sent by SO for call circling at Goleta Beach and is following the coastline up the coast for an unknown reason.
SB Indy reported at 1:25pm
What was initially reported as a hang glider fatality in the Santa Barbara foothills late this morning turned out not to be the case. Captain Scott Safechuck of the County Fire Department confirmed that a paraglider had lost the thermals he’d been riding and made an unplanned landing in an area known as The Pit near the Rattlesnake Trail not far from Las Canoas Road. First responders who raced to the scene soon met up with the paraglider hiking out uninjured
If a pilot launches off Skyport (Gibraltar Rd) and can't make it to the first LZ at Parma Park, this is the emergency LZ site. Sometimes there's just not enough lift.
Might want to fact check here, Don't believe there was a fatality here. The radio traffic heard was that all units were cancelling and returning after the hang glider was contacted while hiking out under their own power. Copter 3 circled the area to do GPS practice and then flew up the coast and returned to Santa Ynez Airport.
I agree, evidently the 1144 (dead body) was a diverted medical from the hand glider call. They went to cell calls and then just copter 3 diverting for SO with no other info.

Aug 05, 2022 12:17 AMI’m pretty sure that fatality call came from one of the engines on a medical in the city. It occurred at the same time
