Indivisible Santa Barbara, an inclusive community and social movement group, is mobilizing community action this weekend to protest both the death of a woman during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Minneapolis and recent U.S. military actions involving Venezuela.

Indivisible Santa Barbara is organizing a protest rally on January 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the 3700 block of State Street, between Hitchcock Way and Hope Avenue, according to the event’s page.

The ‘Ice Out For Good Weekend of Action’ demonstration will also be held on January 11, 2026, to “make visible the human cost of ICE’s actions,” according to the page.

The protest is in response to the death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was fatally shot by an ICE agent on January 7, 2026, in Minneapolis during a law enforcement operation. Federal officials allege Good attempted to strike officers with her vehicle, an account disputed by organizers and community members.

“The death we witnessed Wednesday in Minneapolis is an echo of what we saw raining from the skies over Venezuela,” said Ian Paige, a member of Indivisible Santa Barbara’s steering committee. “The violence being illegally waged by U.S. militarized forces at home and abroad is inextricably linked. Only we, the American people, can rise up in protest to save vulnerable people worldwide from the life and liberty threatened by Trump and the billionaires he serves.”

In a statement posted on X, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism,” alleging that a woman “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to run over federal agents.

DHS said the ICE officer involved, fearing for his life and the safety of others, fired what the agency described as defensive shots.

President Donald Trump defended the actions of the ICE officer in a post on Truth Social on January 8, 2026, referring to Good as a “professional agitator” and stating that she was “disorderly, obstructing and resisting” before being shot, which he characterized as self-defense.

President Trump also shared a video of ICE officers briefly trying to stop the vehicle before Good attempts to speed away and is eventually shot.

Indivisible Santa Barbara said Good’s death is “part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration agencies,” according to the organization’s events page.

Organizers have requested all participants act lawfully, commit to a non-violent action, and discourage any act of civil disobedience. Participants cannot bring weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, to the events.

The planned demonstration will also protest recent U.S. military actions involving Venezuela, including the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on alleged drug trafficking charges.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were taken into U.S. custody and transported to the United States on January 3, 2026. President Trump announced that he was putting Venezuela under temporary American control and, as part of the takeover, major American oil companies would move into Venezuela, Reuters reported.

Founded in 2017, Indivisible Santa Barbara was established to advance national democratic reforms, improve health care access, address global climate change, oppose racial injustice, promote socio-economic equality, and support immigration reform.

Vigil Held at Santa Barbara Courthouse for Renee Good

Community members joined together at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse on Wednesday evening to hold a candlelight vigil for Renee Good.

Local activist groups spoke out against ICE calling their enforcement tactics “murderous” and “treasonous.” Organizers led a chant saying Good’s name and speakers discussed the terror that is being felt and experienced in communities on a local and national level.

  1. The best way to prevent being shot at by a federal agent doing his/her job is not to interfere in their duties while they are actively trying to enforce the law. Maintaining law and order in our country is essential and is the basis of how EVERYTHING else follows. Without laws and enforcement, we’re headed toward anarchy.

  2. Anyone clear what these protests do? From what I see, it’s a bunch of grey hairs, instigating annoying honking that bothers the neighborhood, then they all go home and everything is exactly the same. Is this just a self esteem program for bored retirees?

  3. Trump had a KING Maduro who was not elected, or recognized by any other nations OR the Biden Administration, starved the people, and arrested/disappeared journalists arrested. The people of Venezuela are cheering, and these confused protesters look stupid.

  4. ZIPS – explain how breaking into government building while the police are telling you to stop and you’re part of a giant and violent mob that has already violently injured countless police officers “less than” a lone woman in her car with her dog doing a 3 point turn to leave the area after receiving conflicting orders by agents who were not in harm’s way?

I mean, to see Babbit’s actions as less “violent” or “deserving” of death is so catastrophically stupid and brainwashed, I honestly don’t know how you can even function in every day society. Does the setting of the sun set you into a daily panic? It must.

  5. The fascist pig ICE agent, Jonathan Ross , a Gadsen flag carrying, Trump thumping MAGAT who MURDERED Renee Nicole Good has gone into hiding (with his family) like the coward garbage he is. I am glad he gets to be on the run with his wife and children – so he can understand the terror he has inflicted. MURDER HAS NO STATUE OF LIMITATIONS. This fascist will be prosecuted after Trump is out of office at the state level. What an absolute garbage excuse for a human being. Not only did he selfishly kill Renee Nicole Good, he ruined his own family and devastated the family and friends of Ms. Good.

  6. The WEAK MAGA mind sheep will tell you people are celebrating in the streets in Venezuela. The truth is Venezuela is a disaster. The streets are now run by armed militias from Marduros ruling party with road blocks everywhere. Oil execs had no idea of Trump’s plan to take over the country as they have no interest in refining oil in Venezuela, there is no profit to be made…
