There has been a significant increase in graffiti in the last several weeks on Cold Springs Hike. The large boulders in the creek being are being tagged with more graffiti every week now.
Does anyone know what can be done to stop this?

The Santa Barbara, California graffiti hotline is (805) 897-2513. You can also report graffiti online through SB Connect, I am not sure if they go to the Cold Springs but they can explain how to best get rid of it. Once it starts it gets added on more quickly so removal is important. Sometimes wire brushes on sandstone takes it off. But ask the pros on the hotline. If no one can come out it could be fun to tackle it with a group of friends.
LOVESSBALOT – thank you for the constructive advice! My kids hike up there sometimes. I’ll send them up with some brushes next time!
Wouldn’t recommend anyone’s kids painting over graffiti in a streambed. Is that what you’re thinking? Call the number and they’ll wanna come up with a pressure washer.
You going to tag along and pack in a generator? Pressure Washer, LOL.
This from the former “USFS employee” LOL!
BASIC – No one said anything about painting anything. Did you not read the comment?
Whom said ANYTHING about “painting over graffiti”? Oh yeah, YOU did?
You’re both so incredibly reactive. The OG comment said a “brush”, which could be interpreted as a paintbrush or a cleaning brush. Chill out.
Project much? “Sometimes wire brushes on sandstone takes it off.”
8OH5 – you are incorrect. The OG said “wire brushes.” Maybe double check before coming in and speaking down to people.
East Side Traviesos, been going on for 30+ years now. Stupid and ugly tagging.
By wire brush I am thinking of the kind of brush I use to clean my bbque grill. They are sharp enough to do the job fairly quickly and can get them in different sizes if you don’t already have one around.
LOVESB – exactly. Could work well on sandstone, I agree. It would be great to recruit folks to help clean graffiti like this in our outdoors. It’s just so dumb and weird that someone would do this stuff!
