Goleta Water Quality

By an edhat reader
We live in Goleta near Kellogg and Calle Real and our water has been very cloudy lately and smells like chlorine. I called Goleta Water and their water tech called me and told me that Goleta is using well water now and not Cachuma since it is low. He indicated that the cloudiness is air bubbles because the water is coming from such a deep location (described it as being like bends in SCUBA).
The chlorine is because they have to purify it a bit more. Said they test it regularly and the chlorine level is half of what the allowable threshold (4?) is. Also said that the water is harder than the Cachuma water. He did not indicate when they would go back to Cachuma. It seems that is a matter of how much rain we get.

Jul 24, 2022 07:53 PMEver check the credentials of the operator or the methods they use to treat the water? Bottled water safest bet

Jul 25, 2022 07:42 AMWhere does the water in the bottles come from? Does it not often it comes from the same source as the tap water?

Jul 25, 2022 12:16 PMYes. Same sources as we get our water from but most "purify" it by using reverse osmosis. It still takes a lot more water to produce one bottle of water not to mention the mountains of plastic waste polluting the planet.

Jul 25, 2022 09:35 AMActually, building homes on farmland reduces water use. Farming uses way more water than homes use. About half of California’s water flows into the ocean, about 40% is used for agriculture, and about 10% is for domestic use. No matter how much we cut back on domestic use, it will barely put a dent in the problem.
